Fairly standard advice:
- Lube chain
- Store (dry) inside
- Always at least wipe dry after wet ride (then probably re-lube)
- Clean bike, incl. chain, regularly (moreso when roads/paths are salted) - then re-lube
Also Wippermann 1Z1 chain - not as pretty, but my recommended 'outdoor' 1/8 chain - others may disagree
- Lube chain

Salted winter roads.

Bike is diseased, should be quarantined and it's an excuse for a new bike purchase

amey could build a bike around a new chain... ;)

Wippermann 1Z1 chain
I think I have this, and am really impressed with it. Bike is constantly outside, and hardly any rust, if anything at all.

To stop it getting worse spray a heap of GT85 into a rag and run the chain through it.
Don't spray that stuff directly on the chain. -

Then set your house on fire.

Oily rag(TM): the must-have tool for all garages/sheds everywhere!

And yes, I think it's even tester approved.

It's quite common in wet conditions..I had a lot surface rust on a brand new kmc chain when I first used it. I cleaned it and happily still using it.

Salty roads. Remove gunk with a rag, apply fresh wet lube often when the gritters are out

Why worry about rust. Lube and ride it will be fine.

That's what I did. The chain is doing well, but approaching 0.75% wear too fast :(.
Btw, thanks for selling me a A23 650c rim back in November @cycleclinic, I built it immediately after and the wheel hasn't moved since. 650c rims are getting harder to find, and BLB was asking me more than double.

FWIW, the last Izumi chain I had seems below par - large amounts of stretch in the first couple of weeks and unusually noisy. Will be going back to KMC next time...
I've installed a new Izumi green chain on my fixed less than a week ago. I checked today and there are already lots of rusty patches on the rollers. I've been using SRAM chains in the past with a better success ( rust eventually but months after being installed on the bike)
I'm confused what I should do better, any clue? Thanks!
