honky inc
That bike was a bit ahead of its time, but didn't really sell. Not much clearance at the rear either IIRC.
Anyhow cool project you have on the go now. Isn't the new fork much taller (A to C) though?

i had one two years ago.. i stupidly moved it on to build the cheapsK/Late, but that ended up being too small and i was constantly worried about the tubes being dented when locking up..
a2c might be way off, but the dlr100 lefty i have can be height-adjusted (the bottom clamp isn't fixed). might have to limit travel, but i'll have to make a steerer tube first :)

some progress on the honky. i cut out all the stays and made the pieces to cover up the holes. my mate made the disc brake mount jig - some lathe action is still needed, but nearly there (the dummy axle is there to space the frame from 130 to 135, so the brake mount is parallel to the disc and doesn't toe inwards after inserting the wider hub)

Super cool stuff, stoked to see them finished!

Subbed - looks super promising <3

thanks folks! :)
some more progress yesterday: the jig is done.
found a set of letter punches :)
my friend also milled the brake tab, which i then proceeded to grind/file to size/shape.
we are nearly done with this one - i'll have to go braze the bits sometime this week.

had no energy left to clean up, but it's on.

Rad!

This is wild

Wow, good work! The tyre clearance on Honky is quite nonexistent, is there still only room for 42's with these modifications?

Modified Konas are the best Konas. Great work!

@PhilDAS @Howard - thx! i hope it doesn't break as the disc tab took quite a bit of heat to suck the bronze in..
@Jokke_A - only 42s?! :D a few years back i thought 25s are quite balloony and 28s seemed like monster truck tires.. these are the widest tires i ever had and didn't plan to move up (mtb is another thing), so yes, they will only clear 42s :)
@JesperXT - a-men! :)

I just wanted to ask as my Honky Inc. is hanging in the garage without wheels and I’ve been wondering if I should try it with 650b’s. Not much more clearance than with 622’s apparently.
Can’t wait to see this one built up!

some stuff arrived for the explosif.. this is unintentionally turning into a "let's make it as cheap as possible" project - xx shifters and mechs: £75, rotor xc2 cranks: £20 :D
-
• #16
Where in hell Do you find it all so cheap
-
• #17
Welcome to Hungary, stuff's either freakin expensive, or really cheap.

what he said :) guy who sold me the bits runs a shop.. so i guess he knew what he was selling.. the ad was also parked for 5 weeks on marketplace and they were still available.. :D

• #19
Damn. Time to look up eBay.hu or equivalent!
-
• #20
jofogas.hu, bolha.testbike.hu, set marketplace to budapest :)

Subscribed! Looks fascinating

another mad bargain for the explosif: continental raceking 27.5x2.0 (the biggest tire the frame will accept) for £9 each. i bought four :D

Wow that honky bike is hot... what size is it?
-
• #25
thanks! it's a 56
hello all,
since people seemed interested in the two kona frames i recently sourced, i thought i'd make a thread for them.
honky tonk
i got this one because i really liked the geometry of my paddy wagon back in the day and i couldn't find a honky inc (factory disc version) that wasn't overpriced.. this will be the runaround bike. rival hrd group and 650x42 tires.
to fit the tires i need to cut the stays and i'll also add a disc tab.
yesterday i got together with my best mate and we started cutting everything up..
explosif
this is the frame/bike i didn't even plan/want.. the £6.50 special :D 2002 true temper ox frame with ritchey dropouts (non-slidey) and disc mount. i have some bits that i'll be using on this, eg. a lefty fork (to be modded with a 28.6 steerer) and some 650b wheels.
we drilled out the rivet from the lefty's crown and tapped out the steerer - we turned a holder for the clamp and precision-angle-ground a channel so the clamp's notch would fit :)
