interesting, a good quality AP would probably solve the issue while still being able to keep it 'hidden' away where id ideally have it.
I got some powerline adapters off of @amey (socially dinstanced collection of course) and currently have my work laptop and my portal plugged into ethernet at my desk from one of them, and my network streamer on the wifi plugged into the other.
so far so good. wifi still meh from the sofa, but its only really been a problem for video calls which i take at my desk
@rogan - this may not be what you're looking for, but my apartment is quite similar in shape to yours. It's 1000sq ft so on the more sizeable side. Using your layout, my desk is to the right of the bedroom door and my router is on the green rectangle, so not a great route for wireless signals.
I was using my basic Netgear router's built in WiFi and it was awful. Was fine in a 300sq ft apartment in NYC but not so much here. I tried a range extender which was just a total waste of time. It would do that irritating thing where it would say I have signal but 'no internet connection.' If it did have signal, I'd get 0.5Mbps down.
I didn't want to try a mesh setup as it's total overkill. In the end, I settled on a Netgear Nighthawk Ac1900. It's plugged into my router and I disabled my router's WiFi. So it's literally being used as an AP. I now get 230Mbps, which is only 10Mbps less than I do connected to my router with Ethernet. The signal never drops, latency is always low, I play FPS's online and never have lag. I really rate it. The signal is so strong that my phone stays connected to it when we're in the car park two stories beneath our apartment and when I arrive back from a bike ride at least 200m away from the AP, through multiple apartments.
