Do you have a code reader to see if it is showing a fault code?

I've done that recently.

We had a Miele which was really good but I found parts of it a faff. The bag, the fact that it doesn't hang on a wall, charging it. I know, I'm hugely lazy.

But the fact is, I hoover a lot more often because I have a Dyson V6 on the kitchen wall that I can grab and hoover the car, or take upstairs really easily.

(I also bought a £50 Nilfisk from Toolstation for dust extraction from indoor sanding and it's also really good.)

How long should I leave it unplugged?

Don't have a code reader - can look into getting one I guess.

Things I've tried today:

1. Put key in active position, hold button on fob down for 3-5 seconds, turn to ignition position: did nothing.
   
2. Put key in active position, leave for 15 minutes, switch key back to off, leave for 2 minutes, switch to ignition: did nothing.
   
3. Put key in driver door external lock, lock car, remove key, put key in driver external lock, unlock car, remove key, put key in and turn to ignition: did nothing.
   
4. Short sharp jab with my knee into the steering column: hurt my knee.
   
5. Joined the AA with Home-Start: lowered bank balance. I'll try them tomorrow after the 24-hour intro period wears off, but suspect they won't be able to solve but at least they can tow me to a garage.
   
   

For what it's worth, the immobiliser light disappears from the dial after the key being in active position for a minute or two. Car still doesn't start obvs but I like to think it's a step in the right direction.

It wasn’t particularly long, but it was a screwdriver as opposed to a bit, which wouldn’t have worked.

I'd fully agree with this.

As good as my Miele is the faff of getting it out of the cupboard and setting it up means that nine times out of 10 I just use the Dyson that is charging on the wall.

I just can't imagine a vacuum cleaner on the wall of my 40K kitchen.

Doing a bit of cleaning I noticed some damage to my shed and after some advice on the following:

1. Short term fix
   
2. Repair
   
3. Prevention
   
   

Background
The back side bottom shiplap cladding board is rotten and the left end has broken away. The under-floor bearers(?) / floor support batten(?) underneath the backside has largely rotted away. The floor is now sagging in that back left corner. Moving the shed is not an option.

Is it worth doing a short term fix? My main worry is the floor, rather than the hole to the outside as I need to store things in that corner?

Repair: I'm guessing the battens underneath is just a case of levering up the corner a bit and sliding a replacement under - any suggestions on the best wood (think they're 38mm X 47mm)? But how on earth can I repair the first/bottom of a shiplap board without taking them all off?

Prevention: Hopefully my quick diagram and pics show the issue. Will roof guttering at the rear be enough? I'm guessing that's where the bulk of the rain run off will be. I've got a couple of random plastic tubes was wondering about cutting to create a sort of sloped floor gutter - or will that allow water to get stuck underneath?

Some dysons seem to need quite a long torxdriver. Saying that I reassembled a dc25 today that needed the longer torxdriver. Now to sell it.

Which one did you get?

I heard that but in the end the set I had in my toolbox did the job.

Or get a henry there are less than 15 philips screws to complely dismantle to replace the carbon brushes ;)

How often does one need to do that? Our Henry is at least 10 years old and hasn’t missed a beat. Even when I was using it to suck up soggy rubble and rotten wood!

When it stops working.

It's a repair to one of the common faults rather than a preventative / maintenance point.

But the main thing is that many of the repairs on a Henry are DIY and although it requires specialist parts, most of those parts are cheap.

Henry's are great for everything over and above regular house cleaning.

Like building sites and racing down school corridors.

@Dramatic_Hammer as hugo7 said, when the motor stops working. Faults with the 1200watt henry are the on/off switch wearing out, the circuitry for the hi low motor and the moulded plug cable breaks at the plug cable joint so cut the old plug off and install a new one. The retraction contacts can wear out too.

Friend, who has long hair swears by Kirby, second hand tho not new as they are eye wateringly expensive and you can't buy them the normal way. Rebuildable and all parts are available even on old models but they come from the states so the post and packing cost are high.

Gate hardware. Like for a front gate. Short thing.

Why is it all so shit? Within 12 months it's starts to rust, hinges warping, self closing latch stops working well and the return spring starts to die.

I want to stop replacing it all annually. Buy why can I only find the same cheap shit everywhere?

Anyone have a better recommendation for sources?

There are stainless options out there, at least in the ‘muricas.
