  • Fourth-ded(wut?)
Just replaced OH's Dyson with a Miele. Much better.

Got one of the 'acceptable' returns from Amazon. Box was in pieces but vac was fine, was £200 rather than £350

    Blizzard CX1 Bagless https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074P77HN1/

  • @CYOA I'd get a bagged one - always better than the bagless ones IMO.

I have this and it's been fantastic for the last 3 years of heavy use with cat hair. Not lost any suction power and everything work as new.

  • Like my shark in terms of Vacuuming power and maintenance but hate that there is not cable management snap back thingy

  • Another for Miele.

  • Miele, bagged. Unbeatable. As are all the things they make. No need to buy a brand new one, secondhand ones last forever too.

  • I've done 4 alcoves in our flat - all were wonky. Not a single shelf was the same size. We did it on the cheap using old scaffold boards sanded down, and a 20mm square bar of timber plugged and screwed into the wall, then meticulously measured the gap and angles to before cutting the board and routing out 20mm on each end (i've hung from the shelves and they seem pretty sturdy) took a day for each room (so 2no alcoves). None fit quite perfectly but you can't tell given our flat is dark and dingy.

  • found this
really useful for templating wonky alcoves!

  • Car immobilisers (Kia C'eed 08)- and please don't read the previous page about me taking off the door panel and sticking the window back in.

Just tried to start it and the immobiliser light is on - I disconnected the two cables + locking ball joint thing and reconnected all three in the same place. Presume I had to disable the immobiliser first?

Is there any way for users to reset or is it going to need to be towed somewhere expensive expensively. In which case I might just SORN the fucking thing and take up cycling again.

Tried with both keys. The window goes up and down now just fine. Key goes in, turn to first position, all lights come on, windows work, central locking works, immobiliser light is on. When key goes to ignition position there's a click coming from the passenger side door but no turnover.

  • Thanks for the vacuum recs btw - will read up but Miele sounding promising.

  • Sometimes, you need to leave the key in first position for quite a while, several minutes, then try again

  • That's interesting, not heard of that - will give it a try now. Thanks

  • Has anyone said Miele yet? :)

Definitely go for that, they are just miles ahead of anything else.

  • Just an additional vote for Miele if bagged and Shark (Duo Clean lift away) if bagless. My folks have a Miele and it really is as good as everyone says but hefty (it is well over a decade old now though), and we've had a Shark for about a year with 2 indoor cats and a dog, its been fantastic and significantly better than the Dyson it replaced. The only thing I will criticize it for is the hose is just slightly too short when not being used as an upright.

  • I'm so doing this for my garden office - the frame & top combo is fantastic.

I think my desktop may end up a touch more cluttered than yours though.

  • Good food for thought - thanks!

you seem to be fairly smart

    My deception is complete

  • Thanks! It's still great to look at and work at every day; literally can't fault a single part of the setup.

Got to have a tidy desk though. It's the only way.

  • Got to have a tidy desk though. It's the only way.

I'd probably induce seizures if I posted my setup.

    [Edit]

    Apologies in advance...

  • I am going to sell my frame (same as soul's) if you're interested, as no longer needed.

  • Thank you for the advice

  • I'd be daft not to get my dibs in. Dibs!

  • It's not great but not as bad as I expected... maybe because there's not enough room to have more shit?

    That cable management though. Eurgh.
    Also, that AP.

  • Going to make some table legs for my desk to replace the trestles it currently sits on. Any recommendations for adjustable feet?

  • I'd like to announce that over the weekend I completely disassembled and cleaned my Dyson V6. Surprisingly satisfying.

  • Found a long tx screwdriver?

As for vacuum no one has said Henry?
