Passive cooling doesn't work that well in flat boxes, you need a column of air for the temperature difference to result in useful convection.

Let me know if you want some inside pics...

I might be being a bit dense but it’s aaaaages since I built a pc. The specs for this Mobo say that it supports dual SLI. So is there space to fit a pair of graphics cards in this?
-
• #6233
Might be but unlikely for two large cards. Let me snap some pics tomorrow.
-
• #6234
SLI seems generally regarded as a bit obsolete these days.
I bought a pair of 1080s when they first came out but never felt they gave the same benefits as the 780s I had before.

Edit: Fixed now. Morning googling more effective - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/unable-to-change-power-settings-windows-10-even/33796242-701d-40b9-a3c2-ac277c4c96c2
I thought the Windows thread was a bit quiet...
I have a Surface Pro 7 running Windows 10. The power button makes it shut down instantly. I'm sure it didn't used to. When I look in power settings, "define power button" it's greyed out and says it's controlled by administrator. I'm logged in as the only admin account. How can I change this? (Apart from remembering not to accidentally switch off the computer all the time.) -

I'm not sure I'll connect them via SLI or even if I'll use the second card for gaming though it might come in useful if/when i get around to machine learning stuff

Pic of the remaining PCIe slots. Note that one is 16x the other is 8x.
Don't think there's enough room in the 16x to allow for another card without fouling the fans of the existing one. Also probably not enough room between the additional card and case to include the water cooling pipes.
You'd only be able to fit the card you have in by removing the existing card.

Is water cooling quieter that air?
-
• #6239
Water cooling is more effective in most cases and should be much quieter because of that as the associated fans don't have to work as hard.
-
• #6240
Water cooling means that you can transfer the heat from the CPU / GPU / north bridge /mosfet etc... to a larger, more efficient radiator, where you can use larger, slower & quieter fans.
You can also avoid having air whistling through your case, across all sorts of cables & jagged edges.

Isn't this the same MB?
Don't think there should be an issue with the board, it's whether the case will accomodate them. From the photos a few pages back it looks like the cooling would get in the way of a second card.

It's the micro2 which is slightly different. Some forums are showing that SLI on the top / middle slots works but only with specific cards where cooling is lower profile so the water cooled cards would be out IMO.

Re the water cooling. That all sounds good. How would I go about finding something compatible with my case? It's one of these which days it's supports it: https://uk.thermaltake.com/core-v1.html

Just get a bigger case.

I need it to live in the living room, under the TV. It's a faux console.

I'm sure it's been mentioned here before, can someone recommend some simple software to snyc folders to/from some network locations, preferably with the ability to schedule sync overnight.
I'm working with a horrifically slow VPN to the work server and it doesn't look like it's going to improve any time soon. Would be good to transfer things between locations whilst network traffic is low.
-
• #6247
Actual 2 way synchronisation or just copying from one to the other?
-
• #6248
Just copying. I just need to back my folders up on to the server, and get a few folders on to my machine.

Thanks.
The thing is my GPU card(s) are 38mm wide (yours is 42mm I think) and the watercooling pipes run from the top of the cards which is why I'm thinking it might work. I'll have a think :) -

Fair enough.
Let me know
1 rack unit
I have a rack that holds all of my network hardwaew, IoT hubs, Raspberry Pis & other bits - makes sense to have my NAS stuck in there, rather than taking up desktop space.
Or 2U - I have the spare slots.
