Seems to be gone now, FYI

Still working as far as I can see. You must follow instructions on the deals website, bottom of screenshot, to get the lower price.

Yeah sorry false alarm, I was foiled by a friend not following instructions and then I was roped into the Get Deal button the second time I checked ;) Thanks for the clarification

LOL
Anyone that purchases one is a fool.
The karoo 1 was a total joke. -

cheers, just picked up an 830 for 100 less than anywhere else...

I'm surprised they're still in business to be honest.

The karoo 1 was a total joke.
It's better now than it was - they have at least tried to make it functional. I still only use mine rarely though, and then only really for novelty value and a bit of variety.

Just got my 830. What's the best way to grab other peoples rides from Strava? It looks like I have to fork out the £4 for Summit, but then do I just use them direct, or is it best to run through RWGPS or something so the routing work properly? These are mixed terrain routes

I've had this link stored for a while but not used it but it should let you take rides from Strava and make GPX files from them: https://mapstogpx.com/

This works a treat, I've been using it loads.

Open the person's activity, so click on it if you're looking at it in the home feed.
There's a button with 3 dots on the left hand side of the screen.
Click create route
Save the route with whatever you want to name it
Click Export GPX
WinI don't have a paid account and it works fine

Ah right, cracking. Cheers, for the suggestions.

Even easier than that, assuming you don't want to edit. Whilst viewing the ride you're interested in, click on the star icon. This should then save it to your routes. Then select from Strava routes on the Garmin. No paid account.

Im sick of getting lost and getting my phone out of my pocket is less than ideal. All I want is a device I can attach to my stem/bar and see the route in front of me, voice commands might be nice too but not essential.
I don't care about monitoring my heart rate or my speed or monitoring anything else for that matter, I can just leave my phone in my pocket with strava on to record the route. I literally just want to see the route navigation.
Am I better off just getting an old android with good battery life and installing RWGPS? Or is there an older/cheaper/basic device that I could get? Don't really want to spend much more than about 50 quid.

You might be able to find a Garmin etrex off eBay for that budget. Otherwise old phone and quadlock mount.
-
• #1668
Would I be able to load RWGPS routes into that? I guess that's just a GPX file?
-
• #1669
I've not used one. Have a look here, seems to suggest that newer models accept gpx

I have an ancient Garmin edge 200 which is still my preferred device when I need to follow a route I don't know. It's literally just a line on the screen to follow but seems to work at least as well as more complicated, modern devices, but it has no maps or anything. Just follows a route from rwgps.
It's been superseded by the edge 20 or 25, but somone on here probably has one you could have second hand.
If you really want all the mapping details maybe a second phone is the better option as others have mentioned.

The etrex can take both gpx tracks and gpx routes depending on which model.
You are best with gpx tracks if using very old models such as the etrex H or vista due to the limitation of 50 waypoints on a gpx route.
There is a limit of gpx track points but this is 10,000 track points.
Most route!! creation websites actually create gpx track files not gpx route files. -

Thanks for contributions all. I think another phone may be the best idea for what I want and simplicity instead of messing about with USBs and loading routes on something physically.
I just worry whether a phone would have a good enough battery life to last long enough for a ride, airplane mode will be on of course but the screen would constantly be on and would have to be pretty bright if it's a sunny day.
I have a crappy iphone 6S and the battery is abysmal so maybe I just have low expectations of battery life. I guess a samsung android phone may be better?

Loading routes isn't that much of a faff. And the battery life of the older devices is pretty good. If you're regularly doing rides > 4hr then a small GPS is the way forward.
-
• #1674
Ah ye basically the only reason I want it is for long rides.
Samsung galaxy s5 supposedly supports 13hrs of video playback so I imagine that would last a day of just having a map showing. Also water resistant. Can get it for around 50 quid. May try that first and see how it goes.

Do you want airplane mode though, don't you want GPS on? Otherwise it's fine seeing the route but you might not know you're on it...
Awesome, payday treat incoming. Thanks.
