• Thanks for contributions all. I think another phone may be the best idea for what I want and simplicity instead of messing about with USBs and loading routes on something physically.

    I just worry whether a phone would have a good enough battery life to last long enough for a ride, airplane mode will be on of course but the screen would constantly be on and would have to be pretty bright if it's a sunny day.

    I have a crappy iphone 6S and the battery is abysmal so maybe I just have low expectations of battery life. I guess a samsung android phone may be better?

  • Loading routes isn't that much of a faff. And the battery life of the older devices is pretty good. If you're regularly doing rides > 4hr then a small GPS is the way forward.

  • Do you want airplane mode though, don't you want GPS on? Otherwise it's fine seeing the route but you might not know you're on it...
