  • Hi folks, new here. Thought I'd share the start of this project. This is a dream build for me, always had to use what I could get cheap as money isn't very forthcoming! But we got a bit and I wanted to treat myself to a gorgeous bike build. These frames are stunning and I wanted to compliment it with the some of the best modern components to build a bike that is lovely to look at and to ride. I've still got some more bits to save up for and am going to build the wheels myself but I thought I'd wack all the bits on and see how the bike looks. It will be highlighted with pink hubs, jockey wheels and tape etc to contrast with the blue. Lovely

  • Nice! What cranks are you planning on?

  • Frame looks great. I am reserving judgement on all pink hubs and jockey wheels.

  • That's fine! It's going to look sick

  • I've got some old campag record with stronglight ct2 rings. Just waiting for the bolts and record BB

  • I think @badboybjorn has one of these? Lovely frame

  • Yeah it's a gorgeous frame. Real flair and very well made. It's been a bit of a hunt to get it too. Glad I got the super prestige instead of the prestige

  • I was thinking of this banger as build inspiration:

  • Yeah pukka isn't it. This one is very similar, slightly different setup. The mix of beautiful Italian frame and dark modern components is spot on.

  • Weirdly similar..

  • Lovely. Nice tan walls. I was looking at a Concorde tvt last night. That's a nice frame

  • Thanks was a great head Turner had lots off people talking to me in Belgium and France on bike trips

  • Best thing about the concorde I only paid £90 for the frame and fork .kept it for 2 years gutted I sold it

  • Wow. That's a lot less than I paid for this.....

  • No ahead adapter please, modern stems are too chunky for the skinny tubes, and flat-ramped handlebars are available in 26mm nowadays.

  • Looking forward to see if you can pull this altogether, stunning frameset, groupset choice, but I'm betting the stem, bars and saddle (plus the pink bits) will leave it looking a bit meh. Get yerself a quill stem, some nice shallow drop bars, give it that bit of class it deserves.

  • If you must use ahead stem adapter then maybe go a polished stem and a polished seatpost .

  • Deda Superleggera is one of the few nice options out there.

  • Still doesn't work, would look loads better with a quill stem

  • I agree this would look better on a quill stem. The whole black front end is a bit incongruous.

  • The debate re quill Vs adaptor and stem is one I've thought a lot about, I have two other classic frames with quill stems on and they obviously look spot on. However I wanted to be able to run 31.8 mm handlebars and keep the entire build apart from the frame modern. Modern stems on vintage frames can look smart IMO, as in above two blue Tommasinis, and I wanted to stiffen the front end up. Not sure this one is the right one yet, suspect it doesn't have enough drop on it. The adaptor will be completely hidden, it never looks good with adaptor sticking out all over the place.... And I think the black front end should be set off well with the wheels etc. I think it will all come together when it's completed, won't know until then!

  • This would look better if the stem was at a lower angle

  • Agreed. I ran a Deda Superleggera on my Donohue with an ahead conversion & think I got away with it (opinions may vary). They're lovely stems. Modern bars are way more comfortable than the limited set of quill stem suitable options in my experience.
