Gonna have a go at bi-amping with DSP crossovers. I’ve wanted to play with mini DSP and the new z review vid of the Klipsch Heresy IV makes me want to finally take the plunge.
I’m going to go from Chromecast audio to Mini DSP Nanodigi, out to 2x Topping MX3 which is a DAC/ headphone amp / speaker amp. This gives me the flexibility to run speakers straight from the unit or go line out to my posh amps. If I decide not to go with biamping in this system I can then use the gear elsewhere. Then each amp will send high pass to the horns and low pass to the woofers.
I’ll be able to send everything below say 80hz to the sub, 80-800hz to the woofer and everything above to the horns, with the speakers’ own crossover dealing with the mid and tweeter horn separation. The horns can be given lower gain so the woofers can keep up at higher levels and keep things more balanced.
Just having a play really, I’ll also be able to have a go with REW filters and all the rest. It’s my idea of fun, relatively inexpensive for the potential gain and if it doesn’t work out I’ve got digital receivers for a couple more systems.
