This, looks, fucking, great.

That does look mint. Yeah thanks Bettini, (and sorry I know this isn't audio chat, but you cunts can bear with be as this thread has been nothing but networking issues for the last three years anyway) but I appear to have borked my laptop by uploading a squillion tunes and maxing out my hard drive. itunes is so fucking shit.

Yeah, I hated iTunes the couple of times I tried to use it. De-installed it and never regretted.
Been using JRiver Media Centre for years and it's always been good.

It's charging me for cloud storage but insists on keeping copies of everything on my hard drive. why?

Anyway. Sorted out my amp today and got the (cheap pro-ject) deck up and running. Been digging it. Also sorted out the layout and ordered the cables I need to use my system for monitoring in my home studio... Although, I am starting to think that the UL6s, lovely as they are, could do with a bit more low end help.

Have you got space for a huge powered sub? They always make things better.

I hate iTunes too and rarely use it. I keep all my iTunes music tracks on an external hard drive and just created an iTunes library on the external disk that looks at them there rather than copying a version into the Library folder on the laptop (just untick the box in Preferences/Advanced that automatically copies everything).
I tried Roon for a year but didn’t renew last month. Instead I’m trying Plex (which I have anyway for streaming my DVD rips around the house) - the most recent version is trying hard to be Roon and doesn’t quite make it but is close enough for casual use.

Cheers dudes. Gonna have to do some research i think. Still, the analogue chain is sounding mint.

Does anyone fix or know where I can get fixed my old Sony amp? It turns on but after about 5 seconds goes dead.

Sounds like it's going into protection due to a short... maybe.
Check the earthing is good, so open plug and check good contact. The take top of case off and check that too.
While it's off see if there is any obvious visible damage to components on circuit board.
Obviously, unplug it before doing that.
Be way quicker than trying to get it repaired. Plus repair will be more than it's worth.

potentially dangerous question.. the socket bank i have all my hifi stuff plugged into probably cost 99p and it shorts one of the sockets when you plug things in and out of the other ones..
how do you spot a good quality one of these things? needs 6 sockets.
I dont want a stupid 'audiophile' one.. just one that isnt.. going to break my shit -

Talking of which, does anybody want my Cambridge C70 preamp? Source selector switch is loose, so it needs going into and maybe replacing. See this random picture off of the interwebs, I haven't actually had my screwdriver out, just my mark-up tools.

Gonna have a go at bi-amping with DSP crossovers. I’ve wanted to play with mini DSP and the new z review vid of the Klipsch Heresy IV makes me want to finally take the plunge.
I’m going to go from Chromecast audio to Mini DSP Nanodigi, out to 2x Topping MX3 which is a DAC/ headphone amp / speaker amp. This gives me the flexibility to run speakers straight from the unit or go line out to my posh amps. If I decide not to go with biamping in this system I can then use the gear elsewhere. Then each amp will send high pass to the horns and low pass to the woofers.
I’ll be able to send everything below say 80hz to the sub, 80-800hz to the woofer and everything above to the horns, with the speakers’ own crossover dealing with the mid and tweeter horn separation. The horns can be given lower gain so the woofers can keep up at higher levels and keep things more balanced.
Just having a play really, I’ll also be able to have a go with REW filters and all the rest. It’s my idea of fun, relatively inexpensive for the potential gain and if it doesn’t work out I’ve got digital receivers for a couple more systems.

I’ve been toying with bi-amping a pair of KEF R300s but solely for more power.
Klipsch Heresy IV
Those are some nice speakers. If I owned them I probably wouldn’t be mucking about bypassing the crossover. Let us know how you get on!

interesting!
let us know how this works out.

Yeah it’s just for fun really, not sure whether there’s any improvement to be had or if I’ll just get lost in endless configuration stuff. Mine are Heresy 3s and they do shout a little bit at high levels (kind of, not really, but I’m taking it as justification for the outlay) which I do push them to quite a lot these days.

It's pretty common for the bass driver amp to use much higher wattage than the tweeter/mids. I guess if these amps can drive the whole speaker then they should be able to drive the bass and the upper range will just be a lot of unused power.

Active sub or powered by the amp(s)?
-
• #8073
Active sub. There's enough outputs for another later on too.
-
• #8074
It should just draw what it needs to draw I guess. I don't know whether its better to use one amp for L&R woofers and the other for the tweeters or one amp per side driving highs and lows.

If your stereo power amp has enough channel crosstalk for that to make a difference, you're in the wrong thread 🙂
Did the same at the weekend (all be it virtually) - booted up an old PC and Livedrive sprung into life. Nearly a TB of, varying quality and definitely shadily sourced, music from 2002-2011 on backup.
Turns out I'd been paying $3 a month for the privilege too.
Gave me an excuse to install Roon on trial, really impressed so far, though it seems to have only imported partial folders/albums into the library for some reason.
Can't help on the upload, don't really know Apple stuff these days - I take it you need to load into iTunes to then back-up into iCloud, so can't just do a file upload from the HDD once attached?
