  • So my cousin is on the hunt for a lightweight, cheap, strong, comfortable saddle.
Which two should he focus on? I'd say forget about lightweight for starters.

  • Which two should he focus on?

    Comfort and comfort.

  • Reduce that to comfort, nothing else matters. Look at a lot of senior pro bikes and you'll find a fair few ratty, comparatively heavy saddles. If you spend enough time riding, most are moderately comfortable, except Concor!

  • Fabric do some affordable saddles that get good reviews for comfort. They’re not very heavy

  • Why not suggest picking something up secondhand from eBay or the classifieds here? Obviously saddles are very personal so it's impossible to point to a particular model and say "that will be comfortable". If they're not sure what they want it might be best to try a few different types out before settling on one. I can't imagine second hand saddles deprecate much if they're sold on in the same condition they're bought. Once they've worked out what's comfortable they can decide what's more important to them, cost (keep second hand version) or weight (buy posh, carbon railed version of same saddle or whatever).
