Good grief man, you can't flog the butler. Footmen, maids and gardeners, fine, but the butler gets the honorific 'Mr' and it would be jolly bad form to flog him.

Up to a point. While all can be chastised, flogging is strictly for footmen and stable boys. The gardener should be caned, and, as any fule kno, maids should be spanked
