  • I ordered the 13" MBP yesterday!

    Kidding.

But I have just ordered this

13-inch MacBook Pro - Space Grey

    With the following configuration:

    • 2.3GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz
    • 13-inch Retina display with True Tone
    • Touch Bar and Touch ID
    • Intel Iris Plus Graphics
    • 32GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory
    • 2TB SSD storage

I figured I've got a Dell XPS 13" with Windows, a Lenovo X1 13" with Linux and so may as well get a MBP 13" with MacOS just so I know what Google Chrome feels like on all of them.

  • It's a laptop, a work tool, a play tool... this laptop even highly spec'd has a lower cost than most watches in the watch thread (my contributions to that thread... casio G-shocks) and generates value from the work created on it and enjoyment from the games played, music created, films watched.

I've never regretted spending on computing, especially as I tend to go learn things and then apply those things.

If you can find an extra 50% now to get your laptop from "this is good" to "holy fuck this is great" then do it. It will ultimately add years to the life of it, and increase enjoyment and utility from the outset.

In the case of this one... pay attention to the specs. Specifically, they've put DDR3 memory in the lower CPU and memory models. This is slow memory, 5 years out of date... you really really want the higher CPU models and to get the DDR4 memory.

Most people probably haven't even noticed that.

But if anyone is going to buy the 13" MBP... bump the CPU and/or RAM until you get DDR4 RAM.
