  • How stripped is it? In that instance I'd be tempted to run a tap of the existing size right to the bottom of the hole to clean it up and use the longest bolt possible to grab all the thread. Make sure that it's not bottoming out before being able to put pressure on the face plate) . I'd be very careful not to make the hole any deeper though as stems can fail when a pinch bolt goes into the main beam of the stem. If you go for larger metric bolt you'd be removing metal from that area and how would you fit the bolt head in the face plate? If you go for an imperial thread you may end up just mashing the existing metric thread (because the pitches might also be different) and not getting a decent thread for the bolt to get purchase on.
