Need help recognizing the frame

Posted on
  • Hey guys, there’s a bike for sale, don’t have much info on it, so considered posting here. The dropouts look weird therefore i think its a road frame which was rebuilt into a track one. Only look alike frames are Zeus ones but they are pretty rare and don’t have a fork like on this bike. Thanks for your attention ;))
*i know there is a thread for this kinda stuff but not many people check it out i guess so i decided to post it here

  • It looks like an average steel frame. The lugwork looks competent if unexciting. The forks may or may not be original. Hard to tell if the dropouts are original but the lack of brakes coupled with a single speed freewheel (not a fixed sprocket) suggests this is not a track bike. Is there a picture of the rear showing if there is a hole for a rear brake in the seat stay bridge?

  • Well the dude says it has been repainted and rebuilt with new parts (thats why it has freewheel), unfortunately i don’t have a photo from the back, only this one. Would you consider this a good buy? Thanks for your help

  • That depends on how much they’re asking and what you want to use the bike for. As it’s a single speed you need 2 brakes so if the seller says brakes can be fitted, and it’s a good price then yes, it’s a good buy for some urban not too hilly cycling.

  • The brakes can be fitted on the front (would ride fixed), but there is also a safety concern about not knowing wether the bike was remade good enough. He’s asking 200£

  • I’d pass on it.

  • Drop outs are definitely added and not original. Would have been a road frame. Quite possibly a gas pipe frame. I nearly bought a bike like this and think it might be the same frame. Unless the whole bike is less than the value of parts I would pass.

You should check and rectify any safety aspects on any bike you get anyway, so don’t let the build put you off.
