Looks like you could piece together a bunch of walking trails:
Meridian Trail (untill Epping)
Forest Way (untill Bishop's Stortford)
Harcamlow Way (until The Dell)
then you jump to the Icknield Way until you hit the Roman Road past Linton.I drafted something below. I'd expect no less than half a dozen of gates, some barking dogs (and owners) ad a few bits to be re-routed depending on conditions. I'd definitely give it a go! (or please report if you do)

Does anyone have an off road route from London to Cambridge?
I was convinced there was such a route similar to the downs link heading south, but no amount of googling has revealed it.
