  • You got me excited there about a new cyberpunk demo video but thats just a recut and reupload of 2 of the videos cyberpunk put out last year and in 2018.

But yeah I'm super excited for Cyberpunk 2077. Probably more than I ever have been for a game tbh. It looks incredible. Hopefully it won'd be delayed again, I would have loved to be able to play it atm during this quarantine and the summer.

  • , I would have loved to be able to play it atm during this quarantine and the summer

    Me too.
    Missed the earlier CP videos

One of my best ever game experience was original Deus Ex. CP reminds me of what that felt like in the day

  • Streets of Rage 4 came out a couple of days ago (and is on Game Pass):

I've been playing 1&2 since the Mega Drive, and had no idea it was coming. Pleased to say it's great, though! Controls just like the original (maybe even better?) and has a nice art style and soundtrack, and you can also swap to the original.

Honestly wasn't expecting much when I saw it, but it looks like it's been made with a lot of love/sympathy for the originals. Just a shame the Retro-Bit Genesis controllers don't work with the Xbox One.

  • Oooh, I love a bit of streets of rage.

  • Good to hear it's decent, I'm generally pretty scepical when it comes to modernising of retro games.

  • On another note, recently picked up Alien: Isolation for the Switch. How a handheld port of a 6 year old game can look so good is amazing. Granted a lot of that is down to environment design as opposed to raw graphical power, but the point still stands.

  • Yeah, likewise - to be honest, I was expecting to come away saying 'why would I play something that isn't Streets of Rage 1&2 when Streets of Rage 1&2 exist?' at best, so it was a nice surprise.

I was similarly impressed by Alien: Isolation, too - I think it says a lot for things like the art style and design (although I'm not an expert in these things) too.

  • Pretty quick. I had the hang of it after playing through the demo once and the second time playing it was so much quicker.
At first keeping track of the action points was a little tricky but it becomes natural pretty quickly. I've found you tend to favour different characters depending on the type of enemy you're fighting.

  • So, first time playing anything since the newborn arrived 4 weeks ago. Decided to try shadow of the colossus that was added to ps plus a while back. Holy jeebus, this game has some of the worst mechanics of any game I've ever played, compounded by even shittier controls and god awful camera. It is not fun to play.

  • That’s on my list to play, started it but haven’t got round to diving into it

  • The original version was amazing for the era... maybe it hasn't made the jump well. I've had the same issue with Planescape: Torment which was my favourite game of all time until I started to replay it recently.

  • Not played the remake but around once per year I'll fire up the PS2 version and play through it again. Interested to hear which mechanics you dislike (as there aren't many of them!). Definitely wouldn't call it a game with mass market appeal though.

  • Streets of Rage 4 came out a couple of days ago

    Aaaaaaand... Downloaded.
I was born in 1992 so streets of rage 2 was one of the first video games I ever played, on the sega megadrive.
Misses is keen for coop too, which is great as she's really not been up for playing Alien Isolation

  • I never played the original and as this is a remake I'm kind of judging it by current standards, which may be harsh. With the mechanics I mean the overall mechanics, there's a real lack of fluidity with each move (be it run, jump, grab etc) feeling very separate from each other. This feeling is also in the controls which are pretty clunky. The worst bit is the horse control which is just abysmal. I'm kind of getting into it anyhow as it looks great and the story line is interesting. I'm probably not doing myself any favours by playing it on hard with a baby on my shoulder, which maybe influencing my perception.

  • I try to avoid FPS games, basically end up racing for top rank and playing too aggressively. Last one I liked was Destiny but the PvE and PVP blend mixed with weekly missions and grinding really pissed me off. Track forward a few years of solitary From Software games and the odd AAA....

I reluctantly downloaded CoD Warzone a few weeks go to play with two mates who desperately needed a third and now I'm obsessed with it! Bought the full game, bought the battle pass, maxed it all out as fast as I could and still playing BattleRoyale as much as I can.

What I wasn't so keen on was the sound my PS4 Pro made when loading a new match or during some parts of the game. I also noticed that the fps was terrible and making my eyes really sore.

Decided to try and rectify by replacing the thermal paste on CPU and thermal pads on memory chips. (Not taking into account how risky a move that was with the current price of consoles, which I only realised afterwards).
It was a piece of piss to do, and I found this thing had been assembled very sloppily... the PS4 Pro no longer sounds like a leaf blower but the more surprising outcome came when I loaded up warzone.

The graphics were a Higher Resolution (presumably I hadn't ever seen it work at 4k before) and I was getting a Much Higher FPS.
The thing had been throttling itself cause it was reporting upper tolerance temperatures somewhere.

Sorry for the CSB but have learnt a lot of people are struggling with Warzone and your PS4 thermal compounds will have aged since you first got your console. Its about £30 worth of materials sourced on Amazon and an hour of your time to resolve it.

  • The port by bluepoint studios is supposed to be a good one, and judging by the controls and camera on the portion of the last guardian I played, I’d assume that the issues @Gewürzt may be having with are deliberate.
I’ll still play it as I didn’t first time round on the ps2

  • I reckon the movement is likely just as a result of keeping mechanics as close to the original (which obviously was a long time ago!), whether due to efficiency or creative reasons. The horse movement is definitely something I'd say is a design decision (in a similar manner to BotW) where the horse is not just an extension of the player character and the player coaxes it along as opposed to telling it where to go. This can indeed get a bit irritating during action sequences (as in BotW) but I quite like it as a design decision. Pardon the pun, but horses for courses!

  • bluepoint studios

Same team that carried out the MGS2+3 ports for the HD collection, they did a pretty awesome job with those IMO.

  • The code base is pretty much the same as the original isn't it. In thought the PS4 version just had updated textures

  • Helpful, as my ps4 and a friend's sound like that when playing COD.

You maxed out the battle pass quickly?
I tend to have more fun grinding camos atm, going for obsidian, and get the rank progression ribbons

  • Shiiii... Here's me thinking I was going over the top upgrading my internet & considering a new controller with paddles (the official Sony back button attachment seems impossible to get hold of). Taking your PS4 apart - seriously high risk/reward strategy!

Still enjoying WZ a lot but have been back to normal multiplayer now shoot the ship is back & I'm playing for obsidian and to unlock the akimbo snakeshots!

  • Tbh the more I played it the better it was feeling, I think you're right with it being intentional and it pushes a certain style of play. Probably coming to it when the last games you played to completion were spiderman and witcher 3 made it a bigger shock to the system than it should have been.

  • Studio talks you through what they did..
