The original version was amazing for the era... maybe it hasn't made the jump well. I've had the same issue with Planescape: Torment which was my favourite game of all time until I started to replay it recently.

The port by bluepoint studios is supposed to be a good one, and judging by the controls and camera on the portion of the last guardian I played, I’d assume that the issues @Gewürzt may be having with are deliberate.
I’ll still play it as I didn’t first time round on the ps2
