I raced with New Era and BMCRC and it was damn expensive even 20 years ago. I used to pick the nearest rounds at my favourite tracks, so mostly Brands, Mallory, Caldwell and Snett. If you’re racing a street bike class and don’t get into tuning the biggest expenses will be Tyres and crash damage. Definitely lighter bikes are the way to go.
I love the golden era superbikes stuff. SRAD all the way, though might be fun playing Scotty Russell on a ZXR.

Nice! I imagine with the lighter bikes the average joe is more likely to use what it's got to offer as opposed to a modern litre bike too. Definitely a fan of hustling newer/bigger bikes on something old than the other way around.
(ninja edit, thought this page needs more photos)

That SRAD is super tasty....loads of factory gear on that. Mmm.
I guess the tricky thing these days is the lightweight classes are a bit absent. Back when I was racing SS400 and GP125 were big and bikes were relatively cheap and available. I used to save a fortune on tyres compared to my mates on 600s. I loved the 125s - genuinely nothing faster into a corner, you could brake SO late.
Did that little KTM 400 class take off? I reckon that would be a total gas.....

Sweet Jesus that SRAD passes you by till you look a bit closer. That's got some serious goodies attached. Been on the Thundersport website to look at the classes and requirements. Getting a license doesn't seem to be that expensive, but I reckon pointless without some track miles under the belt.
Tricky part is, what you gonna enter with!@Jung Yeah man, I love me some lightweight shindiggery. The CB500 cup looks well tempting for some gooning. Shame the bikes are starting to become rare and expensive.
We should do it how they do in SE Asia. Small, bored out capacity and let 'em rip.Bikes look pretty zingy too.

The bike regs also seem pretty relaxed to me, doesn't look like it would take long to convert a bike. I think you're probably right about the CB500 Cup, maybe the best all round for dipping you toe. Looks great fun and again the level of racing is supposed to be very high. Fast Bikes have a few videos on last year's season which is an interesting watch.

CB500 cup would be great - two of my mates did the first ever round at Brands Hatch. There were something like 50 bikes in the field, the carnage at Druids on the first lap was absolutely immense. (And hilarious.) Me and another friend had gone up there to watch and were pissing ourselves.
I love CB500s, you can really hustle them about. The only limiting factor was the brakes and ground clearance.

Wonder how much cheaper it is than Minitwin?
Those CB's are not bloody common are they.
-
• #15210
I think the difference a few years ago was tuning. Weren't all the minitwin racers, highly tuned 85-90 hp beasts? If they're running relatively stock motors, it shouldn't really cost any more than the CB500 cup. Would be shit running a stocker against heavily developed race bikes though, you've got to be able to keep up with the last 3rd of the field at least to get anything out of it.

Anyone had good experiences with UK bike paint suppliers ? - might do some touch ups in the downtime so pens etc.
-
• #15212
I think they've split the field in two now. Minitwin for as standard as it gets with very limited turning (fork internals and MC) and I think that's about it.
Supertwin let's you go all out on the engine. JHS racing had some mad specimens. 95hp motors with Ti rods and cams.
If I remember right, their bike set 120mph average at IOM. -

GTFO with that 44t thing. That bike makes me itch. Now the front end is nearly ready, I'm starting to think about other things I can modify. Slipper? Quickshifter? Stainless headers?
Also look at this. Like a swarm of angry bees attacking a Mario way ahead. Those lean angles on those tyres are astonishing. Enjoying the commentator comparison to a Peleton.

Anyone interested in pragamis 22 or 19mm chains and squire locks?
Or a givi trekker 55L topbox? -
• #15216
Pragmasis is megabucks, no?

Really wish I’d had the gopro on the helmet, and recorded it for good measure - if nothing else, for better images of the track than these where I’d stopped to rest a moment.
Did from North to South on the Fosse Way, the section between Kemble and the M4/Grittleton. You get the hill climb (as opposed to gnarly downhill), and can wuss out and cross the rock garden they call a “bridge” to avoid the river.
Amazing fun even at a slow speed on a thoroughly unsuitable little 125. Would love to try it on a real machine.
Desperate for the Mod2, so I can actually get a dual sport. Those DR’s and DRZ’s are calling me

Ooh la la, not too bad. You must be very tempted.
Motorcycle fail day. My track day was cancelled so decided to get out on the RSV to pick up some bits from the supermarket. Broke down half way and had to call out RAC. Looks like the battery is past it so have decided to upgrade a few bits... more powerful batter, starter relay and uprated battery cables. Fingers crossed this helps sort it.
-
• #15222
Is it easy to find a more powerful starter relay setup? my bike suffers from needing a lot of power for a cold start, so I'd definitely be up for doing this. Need a new battery anyway, and the relay sounds unhappy too.

My bike was ill-equiped from stock really, it's a known issue with kits available. I hope the web page is of some use!

Hope you haven't damaged the sprag clutch.
DIY or buying the kit?

I look at those wheels and then look at the potholed roads....but they look so pretty.
Affirmative Sensei
Took a Dremel with a mild abrasive brush to remove the corrosion. Shit was flying out everywhere. The inner seats were ok, but the outer seats have a shallower outer lip so they get caked. Red greased it all, and the pistons went in silky smooth.
@jambon SNAP! Been doing some digging and immediately balked at the running costs of a VFR, even a mini one. F series Hondas and old gsxrs seem to be the best bang you can get.
I can see now why Mini twin racing is so popular. It's the cheapest with highest returns.
I do want to make it a thing as going WOT on the street doesn't have the appeal anymore. I mean, even if not racing competitively, couple of days a month with two hour sessions going all out still sounds satisfying to me.
That ZXR rider is a fucking madman. Going all out with that front shimmy!
