  • Looking for a new rear hub for my Genesis Day One Disk.
Mainly looking for splined hubs like Hope Trial, Novatec D256SBT or Koozer DS300.

As it might help others please feel free to post any good thread-on freewheel disc hubs as well.

  • Novatec D256SBT or Koozer DS300.

Novatec makes (at least) 3 versions:

    https://www.novatecusa.net/product/d256sbt/
    https://www.novatecusa.net/product/d252sbt-d252sbt-bo-aa/

D252SB-BO-AA is the lightest with aluminium axle + freehub.

Koozer DS300 is a rebranded version of that

  • just came across these American Classic.

Not much info at the link and the Americal Classic site is faulty at the moment but looks good at first glance.

  • I did a wheelset with these AC hubs, super light and nice. I'd think twice now that AC is no more, once you need a new freehub will you be able to get spares?

  • is there a CL fixed disc hub out there?

  • Ah, now it makes sense didnt think much about there website not having an updated certificate.

Good point about the spares. One point for the thread-on freewheels.

  • Only ridden fixed in the velodrom once -> fun but scary, not sure I want to commute like this

  • is there a CL fixed disc hub out there?

Why would anybody want such a thing? Centerlock is just a thing Shimano invented because their hubs would otherwise last too long and they wouldn't be able to keep selling you new ones.

If you want fixed and a rear disc brake, which might well be a thing worth having, then a 6-bolt attachment on both sides would be a very fine thing to have. Unfortunately, there are about three people who want one, so it's never going to happen*

*unless I get rich enough to get a custom frame and fork for the TTTrackdem, in which case there will be 6-bolt-both-sides hubs at both ends.

  • looks good at first glance

AC hubs tend to be built a bit too light (they are popular, but not necessarily for long, with weightweenies). Not an attribute you're going to want on a commuter.

  • I have BNIB Chris King single speed disc hub and a front hub. 32 hole, black

£530 for the pair (which is equivalent to getting the front one free)

  • £530

You must have missed the bit where he said the Hope was too spendy 🙂

  • Mainly looking for splined hubs like Hope Trial, Novatec D256SBT or Koozer DS300.

    So you never know

  • Buyer seems conflicted

  • there are about three people who want one

    Who's the third?

  • seems conflicted

Not really. OP says "hubs like Hope Trial, Novatec", we are supposed to infer that he means Hope-like quality at a Novatec-like price.

To be honest, from my experience of both, the Novatec D256 gives Hope-like quality and by definition a Novatec-like price. What Hope brings to the table is better support if something does go wrong, and £100+ seems like a big insurance premium for that risk.

  • Who's the third?

I was hoping @Thrasher would see the merit of my argument 🙂

  • Cunning. I suspect the MOQ might a tad more than three to make it a viable plan though.

  • I’ve always liked Halo Wheels. Use them on my fixie and MTB with next to no problems. Don’t know if these are in your price range or not.

If it's one for you plus two for me under the circumstances described, I'm sure it could be made to happen😉

  • I'm sure it could. Not sure I'd like the price though for a production run of 3!

  • production run of 3

I'd probably want a spare pair for the tandem and a couple for my "Road Bike TT" 464 (since there's no unified rules, I'd want an 88mm rim where permitted and a shallower one where it isn't), so that almost gets us into double figures given that you never seem to buy just one of anything 🙂

  • Buyer seems conflicted

Sure I am conflicted, thats why I am here.

we are supposed to infer that he means Hope-like quality at a Novatec-like price

Not nessessary, I do understand that you get what you pay for. Just wouldnt want a hub where this relationship is reverse.

What Hope brings to the table is better support if something does go wrong, and £100+ seems like a big insurance premium for that risk.

I might bring my budget up for exactly that reason.

  • Save a search for a Hope on eBay.

I picked up an unused non Evo Pro2 trials for £75 at the end of 2018.

  • You can get thread-on to six bolt adapters that go on the left side of a flip-flop hub.

No idea how well they work or if they're vaguely safe.
