WTF do I do with this?
The video side is for work... I am in video meetings for 6-10 hours per day, and it massively increases the ease and comfort of these, whilst allowing better and clearer communication.
The audio side though... I do podcasts. I won't say which as they are sensitive subjects for those whose topics are discussed.
Oh... and quirks of the setup...
Mic cable is split into both channels (rather than using software to take the mono and split), and due to fethead phantom power... I don't want to put that on the single cable side of the splitter (as the 48v from one channel would go into the other) nor power on both (96v fun!)... so I have a fethead per channel from the board.
The SSL 2 audio interface... the big monitor knob does the speakers, the headphones does the headphones.
The Stream Deck... configured to control lights, launch apps, choose OBS scenes.
The camera, I set it to manual focus and focus on a fixed distance... it stops it jittering from autofocus.
It's a pretty clean setup... it all works well.

So I'm in the process of pulling together my streaming setup with a view to running a couple of channels:
Table For One Games - I play a lot of solo/co-op boardgames to pass the time down here at my mum's place while I take care of her and I started an instagram account where I'd put board game photos and the occassional mini review so I decided why not make some gameplay videos and maybe the odd review/setup type thing as well to give me a project to work on in my spare time.
3B Keyforge - Keyforge is a 2 player competitive card game that I picked up to play socially down here in Brighton and I managed to pull together a small group of the regulars at my local gaming cafe into a social group of sorts. With the lockdown looming I managed to pick up a bunch of the prize kits we used each week for our competitions and I've been ordering boxes of the card decks used, each deck is randomly generated and unique in what cards it has in it, so we play a format called sealed in which we I open a new random deck for each player on stream and then we register the decks on a website which lets you play online and have a mini tournament. 3B is an obfuscation of an in-joke we have relating to many groups in the online community very seriously announcing professional teams with stupid names. There's a card in the game called Dominator Bauble so we started referring to ourselves tongue-in-cheek as the Brighton Ball Bags and it just stuck (like wearing loose boxers on a hot day) but we're very much not an actual team still.
Hatbeard - I'm also tempted to make a third channel for myself under the hatbeard moniker to just stream myself gaming on my ps4 and any other random content I come up with as well but that'll come once the other two are a bit more established.

My current setup is as follows:
PC: Macbook Pro mid-2015
Intel i7-4870HQ 2.50ghz
Radeon R9 M370X
Win Pro 10 (bootcamp)
16gb ram
2x USB3.0 ports
2x Thunderbolt 2 portsHDD: WD MyBook 4TB
USB 3.0 port (superspeed connector)When I bootcamped my mac I could only spare 100gb to the partition and also soon found I had no way of access files between the two OS so picked this up.
Display: BenQ EL2870U - 4K 60hz HDR
2x HDMI
1x Displayport
1x 3.5mm headphone outputThe most budget 4k display I could get so I can work with dual display, play my ps4 pro and use roku stick to watch tv as no other entertainment sources in this room. annoyingly speakers are rubbish and volume control is very clunky with no remote. for £200 though it does the job. will need to sort sound out somehow eventually.
Console: PS4 4 PRO 1TB
- 4k 60fps HDR
- HDMI 2.0
- S/PDIF
Keyboard: Logitech K380 Bluetooth (x2)
I purchased one of these but soon found out that because the keyboard is pairing to the same bluetooth controller in OS X and Win 10 Bootcamp the input switching would not work and I'd have to use the laptop keyboard to repair it whenever i swapped OS. The keyboard itself is great and has key markings for both win and mac so the keys are where I expect them to be for each system, decided easiest thing was to get two and keep them paired to the specific os with a sticket to differentiate.Mouse: Logitech MX Anywhere S2
Confusingly this has no such issue with pairing and handles 3 inputs perfectly, just have to tap the input button underneath when switch between OSBroadcasting/Streaming Visual Specific Kit:
Overhead/Table Camera: Panasonic GX9 Micro four thirds camera
- 4k 30fps/1080p 60fps
- mini hdmi out
I already had it so it'll do for now. works pretty well in testing though
Overhead/Table Camera Lens: Panasonic H-X015E-K LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm F1.7 ASPH Lens
Overhead/Table Camera External Power kit: DMW-DCC11 Coupler USB Power Kit
Dummy battery with a lead that allows me to power camera from usb as camera will not charge regular battery while in use.** Overhead/Table Camera Capture Card:** Elgato Cam Link 4k
- USB 3.0
- HDMI input
Front-facing Camera: Razer Kiyo usb webcam with ring light
- USB 3.0
Not my first choice but with webcams sold out everywhere I took what I could.
Green Screen Fabric: 3mx2m Chroma Key fabric & some spring clamps.
Cheap fabric just for me to test out green screen and see if it's worth using.Lighting: Elgato Key Light (x2)
- Wi-fi enabled
- 2900-7000K white balance temp
- 2500 lumen max brightness
being wifi controlled these can be adjusted using software on either my machine, my phone or even through stream deck peripheral, then can also be linked so changing one setting alters both lights.
Broadcasting/Streaming Audio Specific Kit:
Audio Interface: GoXLR Mini USB
- XLR pre-amp
- 4 assignable faders to control sound, mute buttons for each channel, bleep & cough buttons
- aux in / aux out / spdif in
I picked this interface because it creates a soundcard for each channel on the pc so you can assign inputs and outputs for each program individually allowing me to have discord on the chat fader, spotify on the music etc and control levels on the fly without looking at the computer.
** Microphone :** Rode Procaster Microphone
- XLR
- Dynamic mic
** Microphone gain lifter:** Triton Audio Fethead
- 25db clean gain
- phantom powered
Gain needed for the procaster on the GoMini XLR was too high so I added this to allow me to get the increase elsewhere, now I can tweak mic settings without adding a ton of unnecessary noise at the same time.
** Microphone Wind Shield:** Rode WS-2 Wind Shield
** Microphone Shock Mount** Rode PSM-1 Shock Mount
** Microphone Boom Arm: ** Rode PSA-1 Swivel Mount Studio Arm
The procaster and shockmount are HEAVY especially with the fethead added to the mix, the rode arm is known for being one of the more robust arms and well matchy matchy.Headphones: Steelseries Arctis 3
- 3.5mm jack
What I already had laying around. no real need to upgrade.
** Broadcasting/Streaming Helper Kit **
** Control Interface:** Elgato Stream Deck XL
- 32 oled programmable keys
- usb 3.0
Allows at a glance control of most actions needed during streaming not covered by the GoXLR. Will become more useful as the streams become more evolved.
Set/Rigging/Misc
Table: Ikea Linnmon / Adils Table 150x75cm
A little limiting for my boardgaming but is all my space will allow also cheap as fucking chips.Chair: Ikea Skruvsta Swivel Chair
Bucket style swivel chair that is not officey in appearance. upper is constructed of polystyrene and I broke my last one leaning out of it to reach something last year. but they're cheap and comfy just need to remember to not do that again** Board Game Storage:** Ikea Kallax 4x4 cube shelving.
The go-to for storing board games as well as vinyl, cheap and does the job very well. - 4k 60fps HDR

Overhead Camera Rigging:
To give flexible overhead positioning for my camera I had to mash together a whole bunch of items to make a workable rig which clamps to one side of my table and the top of the kallax on the other. comprises of...- 2x Neewer C-shaped Microphone Table Mounting Clamp
- 2x 3/4" spigot adapters for light stands
- Manfrotto 099B Extension for light poles
- Manfrotto 259B Extension For Table Tripod
- LuxLight Photography Backdrop Bar Support Crossbar Adjustable 0.8m-2m
- Manfrotto 035 Super clamp with camera mounting stud
- Manfrotto 196B-2 Single Arm 2 Section with Camera Bracket
Software:
OBS
Elgato Control Center
Elgato StreamDeck
Razer Synapse
DiscordHere's how it looks so far:
Quirks/Workarounds/Weird Stuff:
The Macbook USB3.0 controller does not have enough in/out resources to run all of the current usb devices concurrently so for the time being I have to leave the Stream deck unplugged.
I've ordered a Thunderbolt 3 dock which has 2 inbuilt usb3.0 controllers so I can spread the devices across all three and avoid the bottleneck. to get this to run I need the thunderbolt 2 to 3 adaptor from Apple as well as a Thunderbolt 2 cable.
I initially set this up but the hub died immediately. I've returned it and am awaiting refund to order another. if this doesnt work then i need to be more selective with what is used on each stream or start saving for a new pc.
HDMI Capture:
In my streams I will either want to capture my PS4 OR my overhead camera which both need my hdmi capture card. luckily using both at the same time is not a requirement so I run both devices from high speed HDMI cables into a HDMI 2.0 compliant switch with a single output, this output then runs via another high speed HDMI cable to a powered HDMI 2.0 compliant 1 in 2 out splitter, from here I run two more high speed hdmi cables, one to my elgato capture card, the other to my display. this way I can capture the input and view it directly on my monitor without overloading my laptop. Sadly I've had to buy this setup almost twice over as the initial items all claimed 4k support but were not the latest spec so the ps4 would not output at 4k. the final piece should arrive today so i can finish wiring it up. - 2x Neewer C-shaped Microphone Table Mounting Clamp

Never video coz I'm normally nekkid

£lots I went way over budget with scope creep and just having to add on all the little bits and pieces to make it work.
but basically this is my only form of entertainment at the moment, i'm not going out, buying bike bits, takeaways or anything and I figure most of the stuff will hold a lot of its resale value when I accept I'm too ugly/boring for internet tv or I become a top-tier streamer and my income is that of a small nation and I wont have to worry.

Not you nekkid boy!
Your reply showed up as I read with increasing incredulity the first 2 posts. -

I assumed so but I thought I would address the question anyway by stating I have no idea how much my silly headset cost. :P

One evening after a few beers more than sensible I decide that I play enough video games to get in on some of that sweet subscriber cash. I installed OBS, couldn't get it to show anything other than a black screen, then gave up

Here's the stream I did last night with my keyforge group.
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/607195641
It's still very much in the testing/trial and error stage while i figure out the setup/settings and some of my workflows plus with the discord chat it's a bit of a free for all but for now it's only aimed at the people participating, the more public facing streams will be more polished.

I've returned it and am awaiting refund to order another. if this doesnt work then i need to be more selective with what is used on each stream or start saving for a new pc.So while my Amazon return of the TB3 dock made it's way up to scotland at a glacial pace I did some digging and found out that the issues I were facing could also be caused by lack of power across the devices. Of course running a powered usb 3.0 hub which even boasts an extra 3 non-data charging slots I'd assumed this would not be an issue as I wasn't even using all the slots, but it turns out the wattage on the hub psu was only 36w, so on a whim I decided to try a 60w hub and see if it helped.
It arrived and I set it up but the Razer Kiyo was still refusing to turn itself on once everything else was active I have a feeling it's got some stupid requirement they dont mention which makes it use up all available bandwidth or super power hungry or something.
Instead I setup the lower powered usb hub on my other port and I'm running my goXLR and the Kiyo off that one (both usb 2.0 devices it turns out) and i'm running my WD MyBook, Streamdeck XL and Camlink on the newer high powered hub (because I assume they all need a lot of power) and much to my surprise it works.
So far the system seems to handle things ok and a test stream of me playing Streets of Rage 4 from the ps4 with camlink and webcam going seemed to be good but my volume settings were too low on the stream as there's a weird disparity between my headphone volume and the broadcast stream so I'm missing a level slider somewhere that needs tweaking.
So I'm pleased I don't have to repurchase the £230 tb3 hub but also pissed as I now have £80 worth of apple tb3 -> tb2 adapter and tb2 cable which I dont need and cant return.
Just glad the setup is now finally at a point I can start to focus on the software side of things.

I've only just started last week. Not sure what brought it on. I have a super low end set up compared to you guys. A 1080p webcam called Loetad and Samson Go Mic, which I used to use for recording audio books. Haven't got a capture card so only gaming on the PC and I'm a sofa and controller gamer so have got some usb extension cables to get the webcam and mic a bit closer.
I've used twitch-studio, OBS and StreamLabs OBS but as I'm a noob it's Twitch-studio for now till I've tweaked OBS to my liking. Twitch only keeps streams for 2 weeks so I've created a new YouTube channel to archive them. Only done some Fallout 4 so far.
In terms of gear I think probably a ring light will be the next thing.
My twitch is here - https://www.twitch.tv/roastporkbelly
and the youtube archive is here - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTjMOoNit5CoKeOT5LKzAhg/about?view_as=subscriberI want to do some playthroughs of Fallout 4 with different builds, all the Borderlands 2 DLC, AC Black Flag and basically games that I've started and haven't got around to finishing.

Hey guys! Are any of you still streaming? I've just started streaming and looking at more people to play/stream with. My twitch is http://www.twitch.tv/on1_uk I stream some Phasmaphobia, DayZ, Dying Light (and 2 when it drops next week) and a couple others.
I also live stream DJ sets every now and then (want to try once a month).

I never got around to streaming anything as was just too noisy in my mum's place where it was all setup as she has a verbal tic where she'd constantly shout out a list of names from our family and it was by a busy road with mopeds going by constantly.
but we've finally moved close enough I dont have to stay there anymore and I've now got a proper study room at the back of our house with every thing setup properly again, plus I just got a "current spec" gaming pc so I don't have to stream from my bootcamped 2015 mbp which ran like horseshit.
broadband could be better (about d:46mb u:14mb line speeds) but should suffice for non-4k stuff.
@on1 I've been thinking about picking up dying light 2 so may be interested in playing a bit but i've not played 1 so will take a bit of time to get up to speed probably.

@Velocio That’s my Ableton Push 2, mainly used for music production but I double it up as a soundboard in my gaming streams for the comedy, really good bit of kit. Did want to try and turn it into an alternative stream deck but was a bit too much effort.
@HatBeard oh that’s good to hear, definitely should start. ah mate do it! It looks amazing. The past week or two I’ve been streaming Dying Light 1 to try and get up to scratch before the new one drops. My discord is “On1uk” if you want to add me as a friend and we’ll make it happen!

Can I send audio from my TV through hdmi arc or optical out into my stereo amp?
Edit is this even the thread for this?
It seems we have a few people on here going down this rabbit hole, so a new thread to spare the PC Tech Thread from these musings.
