Took some time off this week, spent most of it in the garden reading this. Now just want to buy loads of scotch.

Coincidentally just bought this too. Haven’t started it yet as I’ve been thumbing through the Jim Murray whisky bible I picked up at the same time. Looking forward to starting it.

It's nice. But not Arran 10 nice.
Questions:
Do I want a rye?
Do I want to buy tasting glasses?
Am I becoming that guy? -

Highland Park 12yr on offer for £26 in Sainsbury's, probably my favourite all round whiskey. Got some Smokehead High Voltage coming for when I feel like drinking the liquid remains of a bonfire and Lagavulin for that peaty goodness

Finished the Iain Banks book just as a delivery man turned up with some treats

I'm not a port or sherry finish fan, but that Balvenie looks very promising!

Shit! Nice palette challenging collection that. The Caol Ila should be nice!

Was given a bottle of 18yo Longrow for Christmas. Only just opened it. Good stuff.

I'm a big Longrow fan, not sure I've tried the 18 year old
The Balvenie is bloody lovely. Lots of honey and butterscotch with smooth smoke, the peat enhanced when I added a little water.

I think you'd remember; it's another step up. The 10yo is a bit of a novelty hybrid, the 14yo is definitely more interesting than that but the 18yo has a lot more character still.

Can I have a bourbon recommendation?
I'm nearly out of Woodford Reserve, and I have some Makers Mark in the cupboard. Is there an alternative in the Woodford price range? (£30 or so)
(I'm not a fan of Bulliet) -

Eagle Rare 10yr old. Small step up from Woodford but more 'special' imo.
Knob Creek is £30 on Amazon at the moment but I wasn't a fan - think it was too sweet.

This looks intriguing
https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/evan-williams/evan-williams-white-label/I dunno, i've not drunk it, but. At your price point. Is different. Has a decent review or two.

Finished a bottle of Lagavulin 16 recently. Was very tempted to get another but tried Nikka From The Barrel instead.
Very enjoyable. It has a coconut and vanilla sweetness with a bit of smoke. The extra strength just feels like pepper. It turns the volume up of everything without any unpleasant harshness.

Yeah love Nikka from the Barrel, very enjoyable

I liked Bulliet Rye too!I try to go bourbon then scotch then bourbon etc so next bottle coming today is Arran 10.

Arran 10 ! Wonderful choice.

your recommendation tipped it for me... we'll see!

Nervous now.

Buffolo trace is decent and I'm sure Maker's Mark 46 was reduced in asda recently and around £32

Looking to get a 40th birthday present for a friend if anyone has any suggestions. Probably somewhere in the £50-£100 range (obviously a wide range but willing to spend a bit more if something is worth it).
I think he mainly likes peaty stuff but not excessively peaty. Or if there are any multipacks with a few different ones to sample that don't cost a bomb (all the ones I've seen appear to have a hefty premium) then that would be a good option.
Cheers

I'm a sucker for Douglas Laing stuff.

Went to Wolfburn, when I rode the North Coast 500. Really looking forward to them starting to release stuff older than six years!
