Tojiro dp knives would be a good shout for something no frills but reliable, cheap and easy to look after. I think they are still vg 10 steel which is easy to maintain and they are easy to find online.

How about a mac. These are very good understated knives. I work with some chefs who have had the same ones for 15+ years.

Love the look of these, but too much.

I wish their logo was nicer...

I have a similar one and it's nice. I don't think you can go wrong with a Japanese knife. They know what they are doing.
I never realised they put this stupid logo on it.

It doesn't affect the cutting, I promise.

If you are looking for Japanese knives and are in the EU check out this shop:
https://www.japaneseknives.eu/
They have a good selection with some discounts and you don't risk import taxes. -

I'd second the suggestion that you have to try it out in person. For instance, although Global knives are hugely popular I really can't get on with the handle on them and don't like them at all.

Thanks mate. The granton looks perfect. May well go for that.

Couldn't resist this once it appeared on heinnie as my hori hori by Barebones is so nice, their no.6 field knife.
Very sharp blade. Only used on veg prep for dinner so far it might well end up in the allotment tool bag for a while.
Dare I say it, I think I've got enough knives now.

Say that again, I dare you.

Which Hori Hori do you have, the classic or the ultimate?
-
• #3241
Classic. The Ultimate looks good though & comes with a carry pouch.
-
• #3242
Well, never say never n'all that.
-
• #3243
The classic is out of stock. The ultimate isn't.
But it's a bit more spendy innit?
-
• #3244
I found some more nice knives just down the road from me, on sale too!
It's funny how a few glasses of wine while browsing the internet on payday turns you into a spendthrift fool...

@>>>>>>Have you looked on rakuten for knife you can sometime find some great bits on there but it takes quite alot of scrolling through.
-
• #3246
Yeah, I doubt the classic is in production as well as the ultimate so it is unlikely to reappear for sale.
The ultimate has the pommel at base of handle and a different (improved?) shape, plus the pouch.

Like you say, so much to look through... Total rabbithole! I'm happy to just walk into a place and buy something I fancy at this point...

I’m a big fan of Boker knives

As Joe says, it is payday...
Trigger pulled.
