First you need to kill the rust
If you can get it in a small enough quantity " Vactan " works well.
If not any other rust killer ( diy place should have some ) will do the job.
Once rust has turned black you need to first wash the area off with Methelayted spirits, then coat it with some paint to stop the rust returning -

Keep it indoors.

Vinegar is also good at getting rust off.
Hi all,
I'm currently working with a Raleigh 531 frame however it has quite a lot of rust spots. Nothing severe, all just surface rust where cables have rubbed and where there have been a few scratches. I'm not too concerned with it, but I mainly just wanted to make sure none of it gets any worse.
Other than a complete strip and new paint job is there any way to prevent the rust spots worsening?
I can't afford a repaint and the frames probably not worth spending loads of money on either.
Ideally, I dont want to go too invasive as on the whole the paint is still decent and it's a nice looking bike.
any tips would be great, thanks!
