To be fair, I don't think he's the only one-athlete or no-who is struggling with lockdown.
Going for a drive and putting it out there is daft but he's not exactly coughing over crowds of children or sallying forth on a training ride.
He's obviously just not great at dealing with the negative attention he's garnered or responding to criticism. A quick "yeah, sorry I shouldn't have done that but I was losing my shit in the house" would have done for most.

If he was driving to the supermarket and pulled over for a quiet minute, then took a photo and said “ f**k Covid” that’s actually probably ok. He hasn’t said it’s a non essential drive, just that he was losing his shit

cycling news should have been diplomatic enough to not pushing a click bait story.
You must be new to the internet?
Cyclingnews has been in steep decline for years, I can't believe how bad it is these days when I occasionally look at it.

I read the comments to look at how peoples views between two cyclists that broke a similar rule have reacted.

The beauty is that you can not follow or read such outlets.
Unless someone brings them to your attention.
Most cycling media outlets are on my do not read list.

The hatred of Dennis is pretty strong, it’s been exhibited in this very thread before. In various guises.

The beauty of a link is that you don't have to click it. But you have a point, skinny, I could have phrased myself better. If he is depressed then that's one thing, if he's got other issues that's another and none of us know so I should have been more circumspect.

France banned all sporting events, including behind closed doors, until September.
Presumably that means no Tour at all this year.

was reported they were planning it starting from late august, and without roadside spectators but dunno how that could really be enforced.

For those that are missing racing, this Twitter account is regularly posting 2 minute clips of races from the 80s and 90s. It's bringing back loads of memories for me, at least.

Diario AS is reporting that this is the proposed calendar for later this year.
A November Paris Roubaix would be weird but in a good way.

Relieved that they've managed to squeeze in Guangxi, season wouldn't have been the same without it. Wondering if MvdP will go for China or Paris Roubaix...

I imagine that teams will be drawing straws on that one... Don't see them being desperate to do long haul intercontinental flights for a total non-event of a race.
An October Giro will be interesting, although it will be round about the predicted second wave of Corona tho so don't really expect to see most of these going ahead.

If half of these races go ahead I’ll be amazed. As a rider, would you fancy breaking something and spending a night or two in an Italian hospital?
-

Given the statements from Riis the other day it seems that at least one team owner seems to think that riders should be putting themselves at risk for the sport and not just during the actual riding. Thank god the riders union is a functional, well managed organisation that isn’t in the pocket of the race organisers and the UCI eh?

If half of these races go ahead I’ll be amazed.
If any of them go ahead I'll be more than a little bit surprised.

Bjarne Riis is a dick, the CPA is a joke. Good to see some things never change.
-
• #25846
Current French government position is that there should be no sporting events until the end of August too-which would set them at odds with ASO-or has this changed?
-
• #25847
The tour looks to be starting just before the end of the month so if it’s likely that it can happen in September I bet the dates for sports is moved to the 28th August to permit it. They’d never cancel the tour for a few days, it’s too big a deal in French culture even without going to the road side.

Will be super frustrating for riders if they start ramping up and training super hard now and then races get postponed or shelved again. Also won't be a good look for anyone if riders start dropping out of races with Covid... With so many riders banging the clenbuterol inhalers you'd think they would also be considered an at risk group.
More I think about it the more trying to deliver the three week grand tours just seems like a terrible idea. Milan San Remo etc seem much more viable.
-
• #25849
I think if there are no grand tours there will just be more shorter races so they will probably be at more risk as it’ll be different people around the riders etc.

Crikey - if October does happen it'll be the best month of cycling TV viewing eva.
Calling you on that, 1980s attitude.
He's clearly not in a good mental place, and cycling news should have been diplomatic enough to not pushing a click bait story.
