Thanks! I think it's because I'm not used to them and the difference is more obvious when I compare it to the bike I use daily. They're just the basic jagwire brake pads and don't have the same stopping power as the clarks cartridges I have on my other bike.
The bike had no brakes and it had a freewheel... So when I went to pick it up, I had to push it all the way home!
I was thinking to put some more modern tekro or shimano calipers when building it up but I came across a listing with the Dia-Compe ones and thought it matched the frame better.
