• I saw that page too, but the numbers left me mostly confused. For example, they say "In all the countries analysed except Denmark, excess deaths far outnumbered the official coronavirus death tolls" - but then looking at the UK, they show 15.6k excess deaths for England and Wales (compared to historic averages), while officially reported Coronavirus deaths for England and Wales are at 19.2k according to this. I'm probably missing something here - I don't quite get it.

  • Isn't 15.6k the total weekly deaths, up 37% from a recent average of 9.5k?

The inference being that corona virus is killing - directly or indirectly - about 6,000 people per week.

  • Ah - I see. It appears to be.

The inference being that corona virus is killing - directly or indirectly - about 6,000 people per week.

Might even be more, depending on whether deaths from other causes are actually down. On the one hand there's less activity of all kinds (so fewer accidents etc. expected), on the other hand people are more hesitant to go see a doctor (so possibly a higher death rate from equal rates of illness, accidents etc.).
