  • Introductory offer that’s going to increase by £80.

  • According to the red text in a red box under the price, you may have missed it. It's an introductory offer and the 5ah kit will increase in price on the 31-05 at which point it will be more expensive.

  • Thats a good set for the price, brushless is great, but i'm not sure it will make a noticeable difference for 95% of people and jobs. I use Makita and I think the 3amp battery is the right balance between weight and run time.

  • My brother has the exact 5amp kit, it is good. On the heavy side because of the 5amp battery, but unless you are drilling about shoulder height day in day out I wouldn't be worried about that. I would buy it at that price, suspect it is Milwaukee trying to get a foothold.

  • Go hard or go home (and don’t do DIY)

  • Are you using that as a hammer?

  • Introductory offer that’s going to increase by £80.

I was wondering whether that was a trap, and that the 5amp stuff was known to be shit.

I have purchased the set, delivery tomorrow- and we will then see if it can get through our plaster.

  • if it can get through our plaster

Which drill bits are you intending to use?

  • The only bits which (so far) have made it through our plaster are SDS masonry bits, and SDS chisels.

  • I have a range of standard masonry drill bits, which are largely unused as they are no use indoors.

  • On occasion I’m pretty sure it has been.

  • Does the kit you've ordered include an SDS chuck? It looks like a standard Jacobs chuck on one drill and a 1/4" on the impact driver.

Sounds like what you need is a dedicated SDS drill and a wired one would be the best option if you are not using it that often as you'll get more reliable torque for less money.

  • The quality of the bits makes a big difference.

  • A £50 SDS was a revelation for drilling walls compared to the various, more expensive, battery power drills I'd used.

  • Go, go gadget desk!

I have a wired SDS, which I've used extensively over the years.

It's done very well, but it's also dusty and massive - I'd like a smaller battery drill for use when for e.g. putting up shelves rather than drilling into concrete in order to put up foot and ceiling plates for new internal walls.

  • The quality of the bits makes a big difference.

I've tried very cheap, and very expensive - all have failed to make any impression on our walls with a standard hammer drill.

The SDS bits are, IIRC, very cheap - but that hasn't mattered due to the drill behind them.

  • Still seems like that kit solves different problems but I know how your reasoning goes having read years worth of comments.

  • Don't buy cheap SDS drill bits, they disintegrate at the cutting end when you use a powerful SDS drill. I have had some just bend rather than drill into the material.

The toughest walls I've ever come across are in the Barbican, they used some special render.

  • Sweet!

I'm not buying the drill/driver combo exclusively for putting up shelves, I'd simply be happy if they were capable of doing so in addition to their other duties, for which I've been using an old(er) DeWalt driver, which is now a touch knackered (in, I suspect, the battery department more than anything else).
