  • The quality of the bits makes a big difference.

    I've tried very cheap, and very expensive - all have failed to make any impression on our walls with a standard hammer drill.

    The SDS bits are, IIRC, very cheap - but that hasn't mattered due to the drill behind them.

  • Still seems like that kit solves different problems but I know how your reasoning goes having read years worth of comments.

  • Don't buy cheap SDS drill bits, they disintegrate at the cutting end when you use a powerful SDS drill. I have had some just bend rather than drill into the material.

    The toughest walls I've ever come across are in the Barbican, they used some special render.
