Front brake be useful that's an under statement. How do you slow down hills.
I love the bike.

D'uh. You jam your foot between the rear tyre and the seat stays.

Lovely bike,
thanks for sharing.
I was wondering why Egg doesn 't seem to carry spare tubs like the others?
Maybe hidden somewhere in the picture, or beeing a team leader he wouldn 't have to bother?
If you' re still trying to source a jersey,
these have got front and back pockets, merino,
but you' ll have to order 10 to get your team colors!

Worn fork threads on the B-D. Got round France OK, but it's started to loosen now every time I hit a bump. Which is often.
Got some locktite for a temp repair, but this will need fixing before I do any more serious riding on it.
Any recommendations?

Thanks to my cycling buddy Ben we managed to do Anjou Vélo Vintage a couple of weekends ago. I took the Durieux and got 172 miles in over the weekend. What an excellent festival!

Anjou Vélo Vintage was so much fun. I think each ride was 38€ which seemed like amazing value when you factor in all the refreshment stops en-route. The 'Authentic 1868' was 130km, and a bit of a slog. Not many proper vintage bikes tackled it as there were over 40km of rough stone and gravel tracks. I think next time we'll do the shorter 60km ride, as that was easier going, more sightseeing, more refreshment stops. Because it was gentler oon the bikes more vintage and rare stuff was ridden.
Next up I'm helping out on the Eroica Britannia stand at Goodwood Revival.

And en-route to a cycle jumble last month. These tyres had 500 miles on them over 18 months. I'm hoping the new red tyres last longer ...

Snapped on the 130km ride in Anjou the other week. Since then the Durieux hasn't been playing ball. I took it to our friends vintage festival in Stockton, handily on the Cycle Network Route 24 in Wiltshire, and some beautiful cycling country. Alas the front wheel wouldn't stay in true, and kept rubbing on the narrow forks. No amount of fiddling would fix it, so I didn't get any cycling in at all.
Roll on the next weekend and we are helping out in the Eroica Britannia area at the Goodwood Revival, promoting next years event now Goodwood have taken it over. I was hoping Rikki and Tim in the Bike Shop could get the wheel trued up so I could ride it around the track, alas the the problem was traced back the hub, which we didn't have the parts to fix or replace. So, now hunting some rather hard to find parts to get this bike back on the road. It looked good on the Eroica Britannia stand, but it was built for riding, not a prop ...

Guilty as Charged! That was Callys ride in July, a great laugh. That was a good weekend in Essex and Suffolk.
Weekend at Callys by Mike, on FlickrIn other news, I've hopefully picked up a replacement front hub for the old girl, on French eBay. I'll pick it up when I hook up with my pal next time I'm over there. Obviously buying and posting internally halved the price of it, 15 euros for a hundred year old hub is pretty fair.

Were you wearing the brown jersey? If so, I saw you and pointed out your outfit to my dad. I saw your bike too. Shame I didn’t make the link that it was you else I’d have come and said hello! I was in a red and white late 60s French jersey, black cap, black leather shoes and white socks and I had a tub round my shoulders. I didn’t have anything to do with the Eroica stuff though, I just rode an old bike down in old gear like normal and my tub was my actual spare!

Good man Jonny! Yes, the ranks of cyclists swelled significantly for the ride around the track with Sir Chris on Sunday morning! From a dozen or so milling around the Eroica Britannia area chatting to punters all weekend, there were suddenly a hundred or more, it looked impressive.
I'm guessing you can pick yourself out of one of these track photos. I'm slap bang mid field obscurity, but on the extended ride around the estate, the little group I was in were all chatting so much, we missed a route marker somewhere, and cut a 2nd lap of the hill climb off. We rolled in thinking that 20 mile ride was easy! And then Chris Hoy came in right behind us, saying he didn't remember us overtaking him?? :-)
Becuase we'd crossed the line together the last photo below is us at the finish line, spot the two frauds either side of Chris ;-) -

Been a while, but the old iron is still plodding along. We did RetroRonde last year again, for my 50th birthday. Even got my nipper to join us! Alas he doesn't appreciate the bike as much as me, he's more at home on a '70s Bertin.
(He rode up to the Ronde from our campsite on the Somme, in Peronne. He managed to beat me in our 65 year old VW, and was waiting in the square when I arrived.)
