Need to keep the grass under control... “best” strimmer, must be cordless, ideally electric so I can charge from renewable source
I've got this one which easily does the job those horrible noisy , smelly petrol things do ...

Got some long shears that do it, but the wife wouldn’t use those / it’s hell on the back!

I know! I can’t wait. I love asparagus. I spent the after with my wife at out plot today. She has been weeding and hella job she does too. I dug a path and then use the soil from the path to pile up a permanent raised bed for said asparagus.
I was on a seed companies website and they advise adding salt to the soil. Apparently they are a marshy plant🤷🏼♂️

Cleared about 1/3 of our new (extra) half plot, pulled about 3kg of bind weed out of the nearest half in the image today

Expect that job to never end. I’ve pulled about the same out of our veg plot in the last fortnight and still finding it.

We already have the plot behind, I'd forgotten the joys of digging it out, on the back it's mostly under control but yeh a constant battle now it's warming up!

Never heard of salt on Asparagus beds before probably because its a bad idea - used to be prescribed for killing weeds. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/asparagus/salt-on-asparagus-weeds.htm
Were you looking at a seed companies website from 1930 ? :)

I made a bit of booboo. I have no idea how I thought salt would help.
I went back and watched the video again. No mention of salt.
We did another couple of hours today. My wife was weeding and I was putting gravel into our new asparagus bed for additional drainage due to heavy clay soil.
No added salt

Now I’ve run out of gravel I’m not going to buy it just for drainage. I’m considering hammering a load rubber into smaller pieces. Would anyone advise against this?

^ not a clue sorry.
I learned today that neighbouring Garlic inhibits Asparagus growth, which is a shame as my Garlic is by the Asparagus. Got another 4 spikes though.
In other news I started building the frame to net my fruit area, and discovered the Bindweed Hellmouth. #pagingbuffy

Love that fruit frame, such a simple but effective design.
Can't get enough pallets, any tips on how you've acquired so many? -

Also the blue tubing. Everyone seems to use it, am I missing something vital knowledge? Where does everyone get it? Should probably ask at my allotment shop, they might stock it.
Any tips for soil testing? Feel like I should get a bit more serious about soil health this year. Pretty sure ours is shit.
Got purple sprouting broccoli and dwarf beans today in to beds today. Plot finally starting to look a bit closer to what we want to happen. Weeds going crazy again already though!

Any small housing developments near you? Lots of stuff delivered on pallets to them, perhaps you could let them know you want some otherwise they only have to pay to dispose of them.
