• the stuff in the rim will be leftover from drilling the spoke holes. You can get it out but it's a massive pain in the flange.

  • I ended up selling them on to someone else (with full disclosure of their issues this time!), so it's a pain in someone elses flange now :-)

    Another issue:
I've bought a frame, the guy's posted it via parcel force and has sent me the proof of postage with tracking number. The number shows as having been collected by PF and there it has lingered for 10 days. I've had an only semi-helpful exchange with parcel force's Twitter person who said something about it having been possibly given to a royal mail driver instead.

Anyone had anything like this before? They didn't go so far as saying what might happen now and i got a bit bored of trying to tease information out of them one sentence at a time

  • There's a huge delay on imports atm-I waited about 3 weeks for a parcel from Holland and I think stuff round the country has variable delays depending on how each delivery office or hub is coping. Probably just sitting in a warehouse somewhere waiting for backlogs to clear...

  • It was the Parcelforce person saying it hadn’t been handed to them by Royal Mail (or something) that confuses me. It sounded like it had wandered its way into the RM system, but when I asked if that meant it might just be delivered by RM, they said I should make a claim!

Edit: ha! The seller has been on to Parcelforce who said there are massive delays at the depot and the parcel has just left today. Tracking update. Phew! And fair play to the seller who has been super helpful so far.

  • Bought an eBay thing. It’s obviously fake. Uk seller. Paid by MasterCard via eBay. Any advice. It’s gonna be hard returning stuff during pandemic.

  • Any advice.

Go to the post office and return it? Just did that myself, not really a big problem.

  • Report it as fake to eBay and they will give you a pretty much instant refund and request you destroy it.

  • Bought an old tourer off Ebay via best offer. Seller claims his PayPal isn't working and he hasn't got the money through on his end when I have the PayPal receipts. Now the bike has been relisted, my order hasn't been cancelled and he hasn't messaged me. I don't really want him to cancel the order as I really want the bike. What if any right do I have if he tries to cancel order.

  • Not much. You can get a refund through PayPal and leave neg feedback, but I doubt eBay will stop him relisting it.

  • Cheers, just want my tourer
edit: he delisted it and is phoning PayPal to see what's going on (assume he needs to verify himself)

  • Buyer has paid me for some tyres via PayPal eCheque. It will clear in approx. a week or two. WTF? Am I about to get scammed?

  • No, but you should definitely wait until cleared before you dispatch them.

It's happened to me before, not sure if it's something they do while waiting on account verification or something l.

  • Thanks. Half tempted to keep them to be honest so guess I'm not that sad if he doesn't pay.

  • So my frame arrived with the artisanal shite pillows:

  • Yes, it could be argued well protected. Yes, the frame was intact.

But equally, my recycling bin now has several bin bags full of Italian newspapers, cardboard boxes and scraps in it and if you'd used a bit of pipe lagging and some bubble wrap it would have easily been 3kg lighter.

Should I pay 20euros more for this 'service'?

  • It's mesmerising. Submit it for the turner prize and try and make some money back?

  • if I had a wood burning stove at least it would keep me warm for a few hours....

  • That kind of reminds me of when i was buying a lot of records from india. They'd always come in these beautifully wrapped parcels, with tons and tons of newspaper and card (with wonderful sanskrit or tamil writing), string, wax stamps...

The smell of patchouli oil still makes me mentally check how many days it is till the recycling goes out.

  • wood burning stove

Christ, imagine how much of that crap they would wrap one of those in...

  • Can you set up an alert for a certain search term, so that you're notified when there's a new listing that fits your criteria?

  • as shown, click the heart icon
you can have a maximum of 100, it is possible to get more running
if what you want isn't available, toggle the sold listings on and off

  • If you make the search with all the parameters and options selected (condition, price, location etc) you want then you can save the search (should be a big blue button with a heart and 'save' on it). You should then get an email mid-morning everyday something new is listed that matches your terms.

  • As above, it's entirely possible but; beware! In my experience, if it's something a bit rare, you'll get the notification and then find that the item already sold or got removed (sold outside of ebay) hours prior to you knowing about it....

  • Thanks @platypus @umop3pisdn - was trying on mobile and feeling like I was just being thick!
