I took this way back in 2015 but I've only just discovered it again in a file after some data loss
TDF stage 19 2015 and I'm about 50 metres from the mountain top finish on La Toussuire. Managed to get Nibali on his way to winning the stage on my iPhone 4s which I still find amazing when I look at the size of the screen.
I like the shot cos of a number of things:
the number 1 on his back & bike
him in focus while crowd is blurred
the crowd faces & actions
but I especially like that you can see his chain in his mouth which is his signature move
As an aside, the stage finished, the riders & motor vehicles passed through and the gendarmes opened the road for the descent. Having spent a good few hours earlier in the day climbing in roasting heat we were treated to a biblical thunderstorm for the descent which drowned my GoPro in its case and had us shivering with cold as we tried unsuccessfully to grab some shelter in our inappropriate attire.
