Thanks everyone! Beginning to think I might yet have another quick marathon in me, if we're ever allowed to gather on start lines again.
@Dammit - I'm traditionally an uncouth snock-rocketer, but try to emit when no one's around. Although as it happens, virus panic has coincided with me recently going dairy free, and I'm sure this has reduced my smeg production. I've long suspected I'm lactose intolerant and I reckon I'm now breathing easier, especially at high intensity level of running.
Here's a question that I am sure the veterans of this thread will shake their heads at, but it's something I can't work out.
When running at as fast a pace as I can hold (literally on the ragged edge of what I can do whilst breathing to support it) I find that saliva builds up, which when I swallow to clear it interrupts my breathing rhythm and means I need to momentarily recover (if that makes sense).
This is 175-178 bpm, which for an old duffer like me is perilously close to my ultimate limit, and it the level of effort that (when I was fitter) got a 20 minute 5k time at Parkrun.
How do I fix this?
