Part of the problem of running in my eyes is the seriousness.
Agreed.

Do you think people would be interested?
Yes
My initial plan was to do the whole event over the course of a long weekend (Thurs-Mon evenings). My concern is that this would burnout the runners and may be too big of a time commitment.
That would be part of the challenge also, no?
Do you feel £15 is a reasonable fee?
Very reasonable.

Certainly not turning up to a 4 event weekend are they.

Endure24 postponed by a year. Deadwater postponed by a year (and therefore postponing KODR 2021 by a year also). Autumn 100 full - this was to be my qualifying race for Western States entry into the ballot but that's also been postponed until next year. Everything else I had lined up is cancelled.
On the plus side I now have an additional 12 months to train my endurance for Deadwater. If only I had the time...

Although I haven’t done one the maverick trail races get good feedback for being interesting but also more sociable which I suppose is the kind of vibe you’re aiming for? Could be worth speaking with them?
I think it sounds good but that’s quite a lot of time commitment - I think for the first one it’s better to be short but a total blast. I know you say you want to avoid hype but at the same time I think that’s some of what excites people/makes people attend. The OSR midnight run in hackney got pretty good attendance and looked fun but maybe too hype scene for what you’re aiming for?

A full day might be more attractive to runners and attendees, start super early - finish late with beers. Obviously a very different event - but I think you might struggle to get people turning up 4 days in a row.

Tour of Tameside manages ok.

This likely bumps EfGB to 2022 although Richard is yet to look that far ahead.

That's true - though Tour of Tameside has been around since the early 80s and is really quite well established. It's a festival with music, chip timing, road closures - not to mention the fact it's on the edge of the peak district.
That doesnt mean to say it couldn't be really interesting - all those events could be on one day - would be super tough! The Tour of Tamesaide started as just a marathon and grew to a week long festival. Anyway, that's just like my opinion man :-)

Totally changed my mind about the fast 13.1 miles this weekend. Our club organised a virtual marathon challenge relay, teaming up pairs of runners to do a HM each. I was due to run 13 miles today anyway so thought I'd join in. My declared target of sub-1:20 looks like sand-bagging after the event but I was genuinely surprised to catch myself running at 75 mins pace, and managed to keep it going for 1:14:45. Very happy with that, even if it's not ratified for VMLM Champs entry qualification. ;-)

Here's a question that I am sure the veterans of this thread will shake their heads at, but it's something I can't work out.
When running at as fast a pace as I can hold (literally on the ragged edge of what I can do whilst breathing to support it) I find that saliva builds up, which when I swallow to clear it interrupts my breathing rhythm and means I need to momentarily recover (if that makes sense).
This is 175-178 bpm, which for an old duffer like me is perilously close to my ultimate limit, and it the level of effort that (when I was fitter) got a 20 minute 5k time at Parkrun.
How do I fix this?

Social spitting?

I'm not a football player, would prefer to avoid being so uncouth.

Great run. Form is temporary but class is permanent. Etc...

I spit a lot, and snot too. This time of year especially, when the pollens are out. Luckily I'm not in town.

Won the London Marathon again today. No medal, no T-shirt, no cheering crowds. Won’t be back next year.

I ran a 1:44 hm today 😂

Lol
No finishers tee?! That race has gone down hill if you ask me

Banged out another (very slow), half today to get my weekly mileage over 20 miles. I'd been waiting to do a reasonable 10km effort for the club strava relays, but the guy before me still hasn't run.
It feels great to be getting out again, but it's hard trying to rebuild a base and being so slow. I took a look down memory lane via strava and it just made me realise how unfit and slow I am.
Eugh, the only way is up, I guess.

Went out for a strava 5km PB, 22:06 and very pleased and now going to get sofa drunk.

Thanks everyone! Beginning to think I might yet have another quick marathon in me, if we're ever allowed to gather on start lines again.
@Dammit - I'm traditionally an uncouth snock-rocketer, but try to emit when no one's around. Although as it happens, virus panic has coincided with me recently going dairy free, and I'm sure this has reduced my smeg production. I've long suspected I'm lactose intolerant and I reckon I'm now breathing easier, especially at high intensity level of running.

Something very satisfying about a few beers after a on or even just a hard run.
This was my plan for the HM as I'm hoping to have basecamp somewhere I could have an after party/awards ceremony.
