What's the chainline of a standard Brompton crank @R.hobbs?
-
• #8579
Depends on the bb! On a Brompton.119mm, can’t remember!
43.2mm I think
-

Read somewhere that it is between 42-43mm.

Anyone with view or experience of 'balloon tyres' on a Brompton?... Schwalbe Big Apple tyres 16x2...you can put them on Bromptons but only with discs and my Brompton will have discs....So, rolling resistance? Puncture resistance? Any other opinions? Advantages and disadvantages? Or should I stick with Marathon Plus rear and Marathon front?

Slower, more comfy, not my cuppa
A fan of Conti urban here, marathon is slow and heavy, marathon plus is dead, very heavy but rolls fast when up to speed

Do you would recommend these? Good RR? Puncture resistance? What about comfort? Difficulty in mounting these tyres, particularly on the rear wheel?
-
• #8585
Running a folding Kojak, on the front & a marathon racer on the rear: reasonably happy with this combo!

Till you get punctures... ;)

Hmm. I just put Big Apples on my cargo bike and am very happy with them there. Hadn't considered them for a Brompton, though.
-
• #8588
Can be done but only with special rims (not standard) and only if the Brompton has disc brakes.

I found bigger tyres terribly slow on the 20” wheels on my minivelo.
Think the small wheel size amplifies the effect a bit.

Are the Continental Urban tyres now able to fit Brompton's fitted with mudguards? I understand there were some issues at one time.
I use currently use Schwalbe Marathon tyres, but I would be tempted to try the Continentals if they have decent puncture resistance.

Yes, new batch are a better size.
Bin those marathons ASAP.

Marathons are still my go, what's the benefits of the Contis?

The GFs Brompton main frame hinge bolt seems a bit weird like it’s bent. It appears to wobble a bit as she tightens it. Is this a replacement bolt or frame?
-
• #8594
Frame hinge or rear hinge? Either way both are replaceable yup, never seen a front one go wobbly though
-
• #8595
It's likely the bolt is bent, easily sourced.
-
• #8596
Frame hinge. Just noticed it was really weird when she tightened it. I was hoping it was more of an out of shape bolt, than the frame hinge (which seems expensive).

Much better ride feel, faster, more grip
-
• #8598
Do you mean the bolt you spin into the frame when unfolding? Or the pin holding the frame together?

Puncture protection?

Did she become unhinged? It happens.
