Another female vocal and personal favourite...

Ha nice work. Which mix did you go for?
-
• #280
Johns Mix, selected purely because it was longer than the run I planned on doing.
Found myself belting along at 4.30/km and had to deliberately slow down in order not to overdo it.

So that mix isn't actually mine, and predates all the others on my page and is a big influence on my getting into DJing. Back story to it here...

Good choice - I must have listened to it 200 times.

Yeah, got it from here.
Not aware of any more info other than they are previously unreleased and from old dats or a rip of a dub in the case of 'Physics II 'Plate Version''.
I follow the Reinforced Facebook page and must have seen it on there first. It sold out very quickly. Don't know why it says Ā£25 on there because it was Ā£13.50. I had to rely on using hotel wifi in Crete last summer to bag it and it's already going for up to nearly Ā£50 on Discogs. https://www.discogs.com/Tom-And-Jerry-I-Surrender/release/13940469
EDIT: There are some interesting comments on the Discogs page above which suggest that some of the tracks aren't from the era and are in fact newer. I did automatically just assume that they were 'new, old-sounding' rather than 'old, unreleased'. I suspect there is a mixture of unreleased and re-visited going on.
This looks like a similar deal, but this passed me by entirely or I might have listened and wasn't that bothered by it. The tunes don't seem as essential to me, anyway: https://www.discogs.com/Tom-And-Jerry-Who-Can-Draw-VIP-Wickedest-Ting-Around/master/1633667

In the vein of the Tom & Jerry from yesterday, here's another new-old one from 2008. This seems more authentically old, though, just based on the drum production. The various synth riffs do sound pretty fucking clean and banging, though! I especially like the first riff that comes in at 1:35, and then the wheezy atmosphere that follows it into the breakdown.
Wish I had this but slept on it at the time and the going rate seems to be about Ā£40, which is too dear for me in general when it comes to records. Do have this on the same label which people seem to be going even madder for. I'll have to remind myself what that's all about...

If anyone likes that ^ listen to this by same artist...

Well I think this is my favourite from the aforementioned Alliance thing on Sublogic.
Excellent little video-game soundtrack-sounding riff (Zelda?!), nice, rolling beats and a general summery vibe.

Test 2 - absolute killer. Still got my turntables set up so I need to record some new mixes.

Gonna try to find some of my old minidisc mixes too, loads of d&B on those.

Nice! Throw it up on here. I was messing around with the DDJ200 last night without making too much noise, and think that itās a bit easier to mix in digital at lower volumes, thanks to having the waveforms to look at.
Famous last words but will try and record something in the next few days.
Vinyl wise, had a bunch of cheap buys just turn up, and it was nice to have the promo sheet with one...

And am now reminded of this. HUGE. HUUUUUUGE tune. Was about when this came out that people started talking about 'liquid' Drum and Bass....

Interesting update from Dillinja. Didnāt realise itās ten years since he released anything. Sounds like the dat Instagram post is linked to him setting up his own new studio. All the chat on drums and synths has me excited about the possibility of a return to greatness.

Not sure I like this tbh. It seems glitchy and ruins the flow that made the original so great.
-
• #294
Yeah the flow is weird, it's not glitchy enough to be it's own thing but it's too glitchy to enjoyably dance to.

Lovely, lovely new-old tune here. Proper jungle bass and breaks.

Been listening to this on repeat while my copy languishes on my desk at work.

Nothing can really compete with the subtle sublimity of the original, but the more I listen to this, it is a worthy rework, admirably using the components to create a similar sounding tune which, by the time the second drop comes around, has the roughness amped up all the way beyond 11.

Really feeling this - forthcoming on Deep Jungle this week. The sci-fi sounding atmos along with the tiny sax samples is superb. The layering up of the amen and apache breaks is really effective, too.

Heard this as the opener on a Hype set from '93 (link below). A review on Discogs says it better than I can...
One of the best Moving Shadow releases this one. 'Open Secrets' is the main attraction and is dark in the way of atmospherics as opposed to nastiness, or harsh sounds. From the rumbling opening keys and ethereal synths to the use of the old Guinness advert speech sample, it just creates an ominous presence which just flows into some majorly energetic breakbeats. Then the drop hits you with forlorn sounding horns which conjure up the Middle East (when in fact they were sampled from the awesome Dave Angel remix of an Eurythmics tune and slowed down considerably). An incredibly powerful tune this one and one that I'm surprised hasn't received any reviews.
The Y-Side, 'Enticer' is on a similar dark tip but a lot more restrained. With lots of cavernous echoes with the bass throbs which open the track up, stepping breaks and swirling flute sounds used throughout. Proving that to be dark you didn't have to pummel the listener to death with noise. My only criticism of 'Enticer' is that it doesn't appear to go anywhere. Though with an X-Side like 'open Secrets' it could be a single sided release and still get 5/5.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBAFIqG202w&feature=emb_title
