  • @BernardRenault yeah fantastic bike, looks killer!

It looks like the identical frameset as mine: Columbus SLX, exact same pantos, and almost same chroming. Just a different paintjob & decals (mine are non original). From what I’ve learned it’s a Somec Air from around 86’, but let me know if you know any different :)

  • My brother guessed 1987, although the seller said it's a 1984... my brother said it was way ahead for that time.

  • Well it's arrived, I just need to get some new tyres (obviously) and none of that gumwall nostalgia, I'm not too keen on that. I put a pimping white turbo saddle on it tonight and a decent minimal stainless steel bottle cage. I also have one of those Italian ones with the pair of gold circular inserts, but think they are ghastly - a bit too Snoop D. can't do too much tonight as I'm knackered and I always screw something up in that state. The Shimano 600 is in great order, I forgot what a dog the 600 seatpost was to adjust though, plus how hard you have to tighten it to stop the saddle wiggling. Not one of their better ones.

  • Lovely Columbus Max Somec for sale here in Switzerland: https://www.ricardo.ch/de/a/somec-rennvelo-1118341544/
Sadly got no space (or need) for yet another road bike, could help with collection if someone on here is interested though.

  • Damn that's a beaut, my size too.

  • Oofft. I could be keen...hmm

  • yeah someone on here needs to try and get that. my size too and I need to stop thinking about it

  • I really need this to soar out of my price range.

  • Well, it went for about 900 quid, which seems kinda fair imo

  • Damn that’s lovely. Congrats to the new owner. What was the size?

    Congrats @BernardRenault

  • 53 cm c-c
Wish the seller would've posted some better pictures

  • New rubber. Love it! Thanks guys

  • Damn I love this. Big ol' gear range. That detailing is beautiful.

  • My brother went, "check you, helical butting!" lol.

  • Mines a 53cm. Which in old school regarding sticky out seatpost is about right.

  • Still smooth

  • Hi guys.
Just found this beautiful thread, and read it to the end. Very interesting and tons of inspiration for my new project!
I bought a used SOMEC frame from end 80s/beginning 90s (i think...) but i have a hard time to figure out what frame exactly (model name) it is and when it was build.
Perhaps someone can help? I compared it to all the pics that i could find but none matched exactly the frame i have. Because its a Columbus Cromor frame it must be 1986 or later - at least this i could find out...
Any help, hints and information would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks a lot
    Simon (Frankfurt/Germany)

[EDIT] Sorry for the double post - the website said server error...

  • Great colour, try the factory I believe they are helpful, and still pantograph parts for enthusiasts on request. I love the fork crown. The bottom bracket and the dropouts, fork crown styles will give the greatest clues in addition to the frame number.

  • Thanks you - ok i will write them and we'll see...

  • Very strong. I like the new kit on an old frame except it's actually vintage look, very nice. But... What colour tape is always the enigma?
