  • Colour match is great. Made me smile

  • This thing fell over when a light breeze blew past it last year and the rear mech snapped off at the bolt. Must have been waiting to go. Was too pissed off to sort it out so ripped the wheels and brakes off to use on the Giant Acid instead... and then spent the past however many months on a bmx and motorbike instead.

Long story short, after a very long morning, it’s now got the wheels and disc brakes back on, rear canti bosses removed, Deore XT with the middle ring only, and a rear mech of sorts (actually the original 8spd before putting 9spd bits on.

Massive faff getting the discs to give me full lock skidding goodness.

Also bodged a keeper on the drive side axle from a bmx chain tensioner, because I have scars on my body from the wheel slipping out the diagonal dropout. It’s bent 45’ so looped onto the axle, and bolted down against the outside. Hopefully gives a little bit of contingency until I can fab something stronger.

  • Reader's.

  • Lovely, I love that green!

  • Thanks, @SideshowBob . Just took it out for a 50 K ride and it's just perfect for the dirtroads we have here around.

  • Sober but nice one, @vp1337!

  • Ta! Your Saracen looks insanely good, what's the weight approx?

  • Thanks.
I've got no clue about the weight. I don't have decent scales... But it feels pretty light for a steel bike. :-)

  • i've decided to revive my old 1997 GT Timblerine... it's purely down to the fact the On One were selling their carbon bars for £20 the other day... but that would mean a new stem as it was too small for a 31.8mm bar.... and so it began:
-parts bin stem - free, yey
-new headset as the one in there was literally falling to pieces....
-3x7 drivetrain? i think not.... a late night browsing forums/ebay/etc and i founda 2nd hand 1x10 xtr mech and shifter (2nd hand, saving money!)
-which means: cassette (new, can't risk buying one with unknown history)
-and it's a squaretaper bb and crank... they have to go don't they? SLX 34t crank and XT BB (these have all seemingly disappeared from the 2nd hand market, and what is there is scabby and almost the price of a new one! - new)
-oh...i'll need a chain won't i? (new; see cassette reasoning)
-i also want a black seat post...so i bought one of them, because.. well, the current (original) one is a bit beaten up and looking a bit sorry for itself.... and it's silver

how much have i spend on rigid rim brake bike?!

£360 for some reason, i blame this lockdown scenario we're going through.... ah well, i'll enjoy the build process i suppose

i also want some new wheels too, i've seen a cracking set for £180 XT hubs and dt swiss rims, might wait until next moth for those

this time next week i should have a lovely bike, did i mention the frame and fork powder coating session? no? oh, that happened too

    (tyres? probably...... soon)

  • Love a revival. Needs before/current pics and then parts/build pics!

  • Too much talk, show some pics. ;-)

  • Will do some pics once everything arrives for the new/re build👍🏻

  • Was meant to go and see this after having my eye in it for ages, the day we arranged was the day of the Spanish lockdown so never made it. Pine mountain from 95 I think, and from what I can tell most of it's still original and only one owner.

  • That's a very nice bike @WimVDD — but then I would say that wouldn't I...

  • Haha, you also modernized yours, @HarmanMogul. 😀

  • I bought it as a frameset in the late 90s, so must have been NOS by then. But to be sure I've changed a few things since the first build. Fork, wheels, crankset, mechs, cockpit...

  • weekend ride...

  • Wow - fantastic
one of my all time favourites and a great build too

  • Very classy - love it

  • Newer than '95
    I'd say '98 more likely

  • Thanks. It rides fantastic. I only need to find new sealings for the SID as I ended the ride with complete empty forks...

  • haha, classic.
I too am working on a '97ish Timberline at the mo.
Also 1x but mostly parts bin and nothing like as glamorous as yours sounds!
I look forward to seeing how you get on

  • Much obliged, thanks for the heads up.
3 years less wear and tear too ..

  • Won't that be quite 'interesting' with that saddle height/stem combination...?! Cool bike though
