Innit.... I had to check the date of the first post on the thread before I posted, as I couldn’t believe it’s 6 years old now. (Well, it is the second frame seeing as I killed the original, but Matt just built an identical replacement frame).
I think the only components I’ve changed are new bars so I could use a bar end junction box, switched to a Fabric saddle, and now new wheels. Should probably start hunting down a NOS DA 9000 Di2 groupset to stash away until this one eventually dies.

Oh, that was a good day on the bike!

One of the best!

Always loved this Talbot! If the headset is a InSet8 and you want to swap it for a black one let me know I'd happy to go for this. Would look good on my navy/orange Talbot :)

I have actually considered switching the headset out for a black since I repainted the frame, but I have never really been bothered by it enough to buy one.
Can remember if it’s inset7 or inset8... am pretty sure fork is 1 1/8 - 1 1/4 tapered.

No worries, let me know if you find out, mine is less than 1 year old with less than 2,000km outside. I'm in the same position that I want another colour but can't justify spending £170 to change the colour when mine works fine and is new.

Just took fork out and measured steerer - is 1 1/8 - 1 1/2 taper, and after looking on the saddleback B2B site, seems that would make mine an inset7 unfortunately! Your fork must be 1 1/4 taper.

Shame! At least we tried :) Thanks for taking a look

Just found this because I was searching the forum for DT Swiss PR1400 Oxics cos I'm thinking of buying some, so interested to see you've just bought them.
They're going to be put onto a summer road bike so I'm hoping the surface will last a decent amount of time and there aren't many black non-carbon options. I looked at the all black HED rims but it's basically just paint by all accounts.
They look good on yours, especially with the Corsas. I presume those aren't tubeless?

If memory serves all it took was a nervous descent of the Col du Soulor in a heavy thunderstorm to completely remove the Exalith coating from a set of Mavic rims a few years back.
This is nuts by the way. DT have pretty much said 'this surface is harder wearing than Exalith' without directly saying it, so hopefully that's true.

Have had both the Mavic Exaliths and the DT Swiss. The Mavics provide slightly better braking I think but the surface colour does wear off, I found it to be quite gradual though and that was through use in all seasons. I haven't had the DT Swiss as long but haven't noticed any degradation in the colour at all.

Quite gradual rather than in one ride!
Have you used the blue pads with the DT Swiss wheels? I think they come with them but some people seem to have got better results with standard black SwissStop.
-
• #589
Yep used the blue ones. Seem fine. Haven't tried with black pads.

Yeah, have been out on a few rides now on the new wheels. Seem really nice. Braking is decent with the swiss stop blue pads that came with the wheels.

2021 status update. Might repaint it again it this year. Might not. Not really digging the flat top of the aero bars these days. Might swap them, but it’s a bit of a PITA with the bar end junction box, so dunno if I can be bothered.

What an outrageously good bike

What are those tires like?
-
• #594
Meh. They are just some freebies I had lying around. I only put them on as tan wall Corsa's looked weird on the silver wheels.
-
• #595
Try some turbo cottons. They are very orange in colour and look good against black/chrome.

• #596
oof that is extremely tidy

Current guise. 7 years old this month. Ageing pretty gracefully If you ask me!
404’s are probably a bit too deep for my tatstes, I think 303’s would work much better, but these were too cheap to turn down.

Looks excellent. If you do decide that 404’s aren’t your thing I’d be interested. Eyeing up a set for my Saffron

Will do!

Thanks for reviving the thread Rob, great read and gorgeous builds! Passed you on Beggar's Bush recently and had no idea what the bike was, nice to finally get the full story. Happy 7th!
Its certainly aged a lot better than me! 😂
