  • Un flic...not as good as Le Samouraï, Army of Shadows or Le Cercle rouge but good nonetheless

  • Dune. Somehow manages to capture the mindbending scope of the source material whilst making an utter shitshow of a movie.

Toto! Breathy exposition! Unexplained weird words! Sting's cock!

i love it. i really do.

  • That's what Trudie Styler said.

  • It's got such a wonderful atmosphere, I think it's a great movie... Think I'll watch it tonight... I'm due a rewatch of Scanners as well...

  • This weeks plans
    Leon
    Big trouble in little China
    Lost Boys
    28 Days later
    From Dusk till Dawn
The Princess Bride and The Neverending Story.
The last 2 are for the eldest child, not sure if 6 might be a little young but will find out

  • The Princess Bride and The Neverending Story being on the same line threw me off. I thought you were referring to From Dusk till Dawn which I'm fairly certain isn't appropriate for a 6 year old...

  • We watched The Reckoning last night after reading an online recommendation, I have a feeling whoever wrote Get Carter used this as the blueprint. It’s of its time, was interesting and quite gripping.

  • A Monster Calls... Oh boy, got me right in the feels... Choking back the tears...

  • Watched Wag the Dog last night. Such a great script

  • I watched Ready or Not (2019) last night.

It's like a much more gory "Knives out" but really fun, would recommend.

  • The film of the Neverending Story was condemned by Michael Ende in the strongest terms:

    https://people.com/archive/an-irate-michael-ende-blasts-the-disgusting-film-made-from-his-best-seller-the-neverending-story-vol-22-no-9/

FWIW, I think he was right.

  • That's similar to when the director of 1984 won an award and used his speech to excoriate the producers or studio who stuck that Godawful Eurythmics song onto the soundtrack. Imagine directing a serious, dystopian film that could have heralded Richard Burton's return to serious acting and the studio force you to have that load of old crap onto it.

  • I feel Near Dark would fit well on this list if you haven't seen it.

  • And if anyone like movies about people moving into the woods but hated Into the Wild as much as I did, Leave no Trace is good.

Really good actually but slightly let down by a complete lack of sharpened stakes and booby traps.

  • Contagion is on Netflix for anyone who fancies it...

I think I saw it in the cinema when it first came out but watched it again last night. Very odd seeing how closely some of it matches the reality of our current situation.

  • A dvd oldies double bill last night and this evening.

Hustle & Flow - modern blaxploitation, great soundtrack

Little Giants - Must be in the top 5 greatest films about sports. And includes in the plot one of the top 5 greatest trick plays in American football. A proper feel good movie

  • Leave no Trace

Yes! Thomasin McKenzie is excellent, as she is in JoJo Rabbit

  • Midnight Run on Netflix, excellent late 80s buddy/cop/bounty hunter movie.

I don't think it ever got the recognition it deserves and has one of De Niros best performances IMO

  • Agree with Greenhell's view of Dune,
    Visually awesome entertaining bonkers
    Well ahead of its time.
    Watched it like 20 times
(Including the 3+h extended version #arseache)

  • Agreed on all counts. One of my favourite genre's and I'm not sure it's been bettered (although 48 hours was a lot earlier). No weak links and a great soundtrack from Danny Elfman.

  • Yep, she completely owned that movie.

  • I also really like The Hard Way (Fox/Woods) in a similar vein but lighter in tone.

  • Jojo rabbit, sad and quite funny. Really enjoyed it.

  • Finally got round to watching The Favourite. Shouldn’t have left it this long, it’s incredible.

  • "DON'T LOOK AT ME!" 🤣
