Legend! Will have a read. My physio has been great and given me good guidelines to go by. Can’t see him at the moment though.

any opinions on running watches? would like gps with barometric altimeter, music, heart monitor, strava - other than that not really fussed about features. would be great to not have to carry phone too.

The Garmin 945 is excellent but is pricey

Fast! Well done. What was wrong with pacing?

This is def on my radar! It sounds like the best option, have been a little unsure as the fenix6 seems to offer more, not that I necessarily need it... just like to be sure I'm getting the right option for me.

Fenix 6 is noticeably heavier on the wrist than Forerunner 945, if that matters.
I ended up getting a Fenix 6S as it then slims down to 945 weight.

Started too fast and couldn't hold on.

First run in 4 weeks after suspected COVID-19. Lungs felt okay, but generally felt weak and feel quite knackered now. Rolled my ankle running up hill home so called it quits after 4.5k
I was probably running my fastest 5k and 10ks in the weeks before I sick, with long runs around the 15k mark. How long should I expect to take it easy. I have no real goals right now, so if you say 2 months I'll be okay with that.

I have a friend who is about 6 weeks into his recovery from suspected COVID19. He is still struggling to get out for 5k or more. He is really suffering for nearly 36 hours after any jog. So it sounds like at least two months.

I think I over did it today.
1st run post covid last wednesday 5k in 21.33. Fastest time and I felt fine.
2nd run was last Saturday, 8.6k in 38.40 second. Lungs and chest was fine but calfs felt a little tight during the run but pushed past it etc.
Today I ran 10.5k , did that in 48.53 and I can barely walk!! Right quad is battered and calfs are so tender it hurts to walk. Shame when the body and cardiovascular fitness add up.
Just gonna stretch, massage and eat the next few days.
Need to learn to pace myself.

Ofc there are lots of reasons to avoid COVID, and training is probably the least of them but this has definitely crossed my mind.
My focus this year has been on consistency (helped by wfh) and a slight mixup of my previous approaches and I feel I’m building my best base in years. Would really rather not lose it.

i bought the fenix 6x recently, love it, but it is heavy!
for the first couple of weeks i did notice the weight while running but now everything it set up, running phone free is great!

I ended up in a similar situation earlier this year. Stretch stretch stretch. I also found a foam roller helped.

cool cool. I think the 945 might be the better shout for me.. annoyingly I have to wear them on my right wrist as I have heavy black tattoo on my left arm which stops the heart sensor from working!! I thin ka heavy watch might just feel a bit too weird on my right wrist...

I bought mine from Tobydeals - it gets pretty shocking reviews but ive bought three things all have eventually arrived and worked perfectly. I paid £330 for it but think it might have gone up a bit since

damn that is a good price - best at the moment is more like 500

Calves feel bruised to shit.
Any clues why? Nothing new done, mileage the same, foam rolling the same, stretching normal.

Mainly on or off road?

Road

Changed shoes recently? If you've gone to a model with less drop then you'll be putting more strain on the calves.

Could the sudden increase in heat leave you a bit dehydrated?

Thanks, early morning has worked. Finally got over the hump and have been out twice this week.

Are you doing any weight/strength training? A few weighted calf raises can actually do wonders for tight calves, improving their strength will make them much more able to deal with the stresses of constant movement in running. Same with quads. Many more types of exercises for those.
Probably. This paper’s a good summary: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Henning_Langberg/publication/42389969_The_pathogenesis_of_tendinopathy_Balancing_the_response_to_loading/links/0c96053182614e753b000000/The-pathogenesis-of-tendinopathy-Balancing-the-response-to-loading.pdf?origin=publication_detail
And the magic graph:
