  • Brother who lived in Guildford used to complain constantly about the lack of seats on commuter trains into London. It's a lot of money each month to pay to stand up for 45 minutes. He might have just been traveling at peak peak trainwanker time though.

    That was, of course, before the War of the Worlds type destruction of that part of suburbia.

  • Yeah no chance of a seat from Guildford. Even at Haslemere I'd say it's no better than 50/50 on any of the popular trains. I'm happy to have 15 minutes longer on the train to get a guaranteed seat every day (if I ever return to regularly commuting after all this).

  • When I was much younger I did the Woking to London in rush hour (hungover). Bit shorter than Guildford, but no seats and tube-like space. No idea about Haslemere in rush hour.

    I'm sure that someone on here used to commute by bike to Guildford from East LDN?...although Haslemere would prob be pushing it, especially on the way home!

    I think one thing that has been cemented by C19 is that I WFH. Going into London would be for meetings, or onward travel via Eurostar.
