We are 80% banana DNA.
We carry a proper virus in our DNA to enable pregnancy, it suppresses the immune system in the womb when needed.
But I am not engineered from a banana with viral DNA.
There's some links on corona on the wikipedia and 4 other coronas were sequenced, those ones just cause a cold and are widespread. To me it still seems plausible this one picked up a bit of useful RNA somewhere and because the nasty virus it is now.
