• Yeah it’s their way of telling you your price was too high.

It’s no biggy just chuck it on gumtree

  • exactly that - hence my feeling then obliged to take an offer - eBay stitches you right up!

As an aside @PhilDAS @Howard is there any risk to me, the seller, if a buyer purchases something using friends and family. Someone from India wants something of mine and has asked "got anything else?" to which I asked, "Like what?" and he said "Anything nice I can add to the shipment." He's willing to pay friends and family so not sure if there's catch just seems a bit odd? Not specifically ebay btw

  • Its paypal unfortunately

  • eBay is invoicing me for seller fees on a thing that sold but the buyer never paid for. Looks like I have to pay then receive a credit for it? Twats

  • How long do I have under PayPal rules to file and return a 'not as described'? bought something that was listed as one model but actually another.
    cheers

  • Ebay is 30 days but paypal is 180 days.

  • Ideal - this is PayPal specifically. Requested a good karma/good will 5% partial refund (was a lesser model so seemed more than fair) but seller insisted on return, as is their right - I might insist on waiting 180 days then (I won't of course!)
    Thanks

  • Bought something on eBay, it’s marked as shipped, but it’s a yodel tracking number which says a package code has been generated and it’s awaiting collection - the code was generated on the 23rd, and the tracking hasn’t been updated since.
I appreciate that mid corona, things are taking longer, and I messaged the seller to check up on it, but I just got the line about things taking a bit longer at this time.

There isn’t really anything I can do is there? I don’t know if it’s because yodel aren’t operating in that area at the moment, if the guy isn’t actually available for them to collect, or if the thing isn’t coming at all.

  • I'd give it another week under the circumstances and if still not collected maybe then ask to cancel.

  • Aye. I’ve contacted to check if it’s actually been collected. If that’s the case it’s just a yodel waiting game - which is frustrating, but less annoying.

  • yeah yodel are shite at the best of times to fuck knows what this'll do to them...

  • Sold some trainers. Sent via MyHermes. Courier nicked them. Currently going through MyHermes refund process. Painful. Not using MyHermes again. Twats.

Also I only insured them at half their value (cause I'm an idiot).

  • I bought a frame on FB so not ebay but general question...

I asked seller to ship. He said yes, gave me quote for fee-50 odd euros. Quite high, but I paid it.

He's now shipped and come back to me saying that it cost almost 70 euros because the weight was over (6.6kg, so c. 2kg for frame, 4kg packing?!) and asked me to pay the difference, although this is "up to your kindness".

I've shipped plenty of frames in my time, sub 5kg, so suspect he's packed the box out with total shite which makes me less inclined to be generous, even before you get to the question of "being kind" about it.

    What's the forum opinion?

  • He used 'weigh' too much packaging. If he acted in good faith and realised only late on postage cost would be so much he should have amended it or contacted you asking prior to shipping. Have you received it? If so and you're really happy and believe he's acted in good faith and is making an honest request, then maybe split.

  • upvote for the punning!

Not received it yet, he just passed on the shipping info. Was a good deal on the frame but the higher shipping amount would represent a disproportionate amount relative to value paid if you know what I mean-I've had frames from italy that cost 30 euros to get here too, so already I was accommodating his preferred mode of shipping.

Have told him that I'll wait to see how it was packed when it arrives and that it isn't just a matter of my kindness but also his responsibility for using appropriate materials.

Might be cunty but I've received frames packed out with all sorts of manky shite before like old clothes and bedding or hundreds and hundreds of newspapers so if it's similar I'll tell him to do one.. that said I've also arrived at post offices and been caught out and had to pay more, but I've never begged the buyer for the difference.

  • I'd wait until you receive it. If the weight was over because it was immaculately packed with surplus material to avoid damage, then I'd be happy to pay the extra for a frame undamaged during transit.

  • yeah, I appreciate well packed frames and wouldn't want to be harsh about it.

Just find it weird as I would never think to ask if I'd under-estimated it myself, especially relative to the total value of the sale. Do you think it's fair enough if it's jam packed with random odds and sods to decline though?

  • He's come back with this.

Am sure it provides protection but sounds like a few carrier bags filled with shite.

  • Actual lol at the "pillows" filled with shite bit.

Hope it arrives safe either way!

  • Protect you frames with this one simple trick! Packing suppliers hate him.

  • Thanks all. Hope it arrives safe too-fillet brazed Columbus EL OS frame made by Dosi...

Not so sold on the paint but have had a total fillet braze fetish of late. Should probably just save the cash to do a frame building course and join the herd of shed based artisans.

  • So if he’s used this method a number of times before, why has this one tipped the scales over the threshold? I’d be inclined to politely point out that you were quoted a price, you paid up and now through no fault of your own you’re being asked to make up for his over-zealousness. It’s a steel bike frame, not a mirror.

  • Just want to check my position on something: got some wheels and they’ve just turned up. Rear is centre lock and that wasn’t mentioned or shown on photo (there’s a pic of the front 6-bolt) and also it sounds like there something loose rattling around in the rim. Can’t locate or remove it.

Grounds for return with them footing postage bill?

  • Absolutely.

  • I guess they knew there were issues as they gave me a full refund and I don't seem to have to send them back as far as I can tell.
