A bit late to this conversation, but have you looked at Humbrol enamels? I've used them to hide repairs in the past, and while not perfect it's been good enough. Two or three tins, a suitably fine brush and a bit of artiness might do it? They'll mix and blend with each other, and can be overpainted to get a closer match.
