I just bought small chilli plants last year and grew them out. Thought to myself - I'll save some cash and do it from seed this year. Cue lots of staring at seedling pots doing fuck all.

You guys should check out the Chilli Thread!
tl;dr - fresh seeds work better, keep them in a warm, moist enviroment (but not soaking wet), about 22-28°C (depends a bit on the kind of seed) - a good option is to have it in small tupperware canisters with a lid, folded sheet of kitchen (paper) towel that you keep damp, put all this on your WiFi router and wait, they germinate in 2-20 days (again, depends on the kind of chilli).
Godspeed.

Nice one you’re going to have more tomatoes than you know what to do with!

• #406
Haha, let me know if you ever run low on tomatoes

Probably left this a bit too late to ask but my ferns are looking a little worse for wear. I’ve owned them for ages and they were fine up until a few weeks ago. They’ve always been in the same position and I’ve not changed watering/feeding habits. What do people think? Maybe they need misting in the warmer months?

On a more positive note, I repotted a load of lil guys today and everyone else is looking happy. I have a yucca that’s taking up some serious real estate so he’s gonna get chopped once I get some more pots.

Any tips for the red and yellow guy? I have one of those but it's not looking so healthy as yours

The guy above the pen pot? Seems to need a fair amount of water and good light. He’s definitely one of my more thirsty guys. Although he does have a couple of brown patches on the leaves but they don’t seem to be increasing so just gonna carry on as is for now.

very nice

That’s like half of them, they’ve taken over the flat and are more work than I was expecting!

Having breakfast with all those guys is great though!

Yeah that one. Mine has a lot of dry brown leaf tips - will try more water.
On a separate note, I took some drastic actions today. Removed two dead branches from my braided pachira aquatica tree, unbraided then, pulled out their roots and repotted - hoping to stop the rot spreading. And beheaded my pilea, which was getting way too leggy. Hoping I haven't just murdered two of my faves...

I'm not an expert but I have mine in the bathroom in a pretty shady spot and it appears to be doing pretty well. The bathroom gets very steamy and I only water it every couple of weeks.

Can anyone tell me what's happening to my lipstick plant? The leaves seem to be yellowing. Kind of looks like they're bleaching.

Repotting a jade plant - what kind of soil should I be putting a succulent in? I’m assuming it’s not going to appreciate a rich potting compost, but maybe I’m wrong?
-

You get cactus and succulent specific potting compost, think it is mainly higher draining and less rich but anywhere that sells compost will sell this variety as well, I got this brand earleir in the week as I have used thier chilli specific feed in the past and rated it
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cactus-Succulent-Focus-Repotting-Litre/dp/B007797622It is normally cheaper but corona seems to of pushed prices up and reduced availbility

Cheers! Now to try to find the smallest possible bag - I only have the one plant that needs repotting so 2 litres seems a bit like overkill.

Get more plants 🙂

It's more to do with light levels but yes, you need to water more in summer than in winter. This goes for all plants.

Usual potting soil supplier is closed. Anyone seen shops selling in Hackney area, or anyone with surplus they’re willing to sell on?

My succulents have been severely neglected for a couple of years. Time for some repotting. Does anyone know what the plant is that there's loads of? It originally came just one stem in a pot and got knocked off the windowsill and since then they've just been multiplying. I'd assumed originally they're meant to go up, but actually they seem to branch and spread out - like the two attached pics. They aren't meant to be yellowy brown that's them suffering from too much heat and not enough food I think. I'd love to know what they are supposed to look like and what their natural environment is.

Anyone using clay pebbles (LECA) with their houseplants? Either instead of or combined with soil. Seems to promise a holy grail of water retention but good drainage and aeration...

Does anyone know what the plant is that there's loads of?
That's some sedum type succulent, "cremnosedum" I believe, that you have there.

That's what these are! They are a few years old though. The best harvest I got was from a tesco 'grow your own chilli kit' so it seems KISS works best.
