  • This is the hardest bit of the build.. Waiting for the frame to arrive from the really nice folk at Isambard Cycles.

  • As background, I have a thing for Gazelle Champion Mondial frames. So I'm building another one. This time a cx frame. Here's the pic that sold it to me.

  • Woah! NOS? Looks bangin'.

  • I wish!! Bob jackson respray. But its a 10 years older than me, so i will forgive a little cosmetic surgery.

  • It' s going to a 'neo - retro ' totally on trend CX/gravel build.. Just trying to decide on the groupset. Probably campag 10 or 11 speed with some personal touches.

Polished up some ventos for it. Probably going to try ghetto tubeless on them

  • That fork crown.

  • How much tyre can you fit between the chainstays?

  • Excited to follow this!

  • According to isambard, loads. But I think the issue wi be downtube clearance. I'm thinking probably 35s as I'm only using skinny rims. But il decide tomorrow when it arrives.

  • So. Brakes is easy, TRP cx 8.4 as I actually want to stop.

Groupset is mostly decided as we had some silver veloce reduced at work. But the big question is what chainset? Veloce 10 speed classic campag look or new centaur. Both options in silver, with black custom 46/34 rings.

  • Veloce

  • 100% this^

  • Veloce

  • I've always like the four arm cranks on skinny tube bikes. Google brings up some lovely examples.

  • oh this is going to be good...

    x4 for Veloce.

    slicks or knobs?

  • It’s your bike dude
    I think they’re a horrible design

  • True but we all crave approval.

All being well its going to get some 'pantographing' so either way it shod look pretty

  • +1, you can't tell a man how he likes his steak. But those Centaurs are definitely the "well done" of the crank options.

  • One positive thing about these cranks is that they take the attention away from the brown saddle and bartape.

  • Its gonna look good!

  • Still unsure of finishing kit. Though it will be silver

  • As it's going to be a generally classic build... I figured I'd do something silly with tyres.

  • So. While I'd love a campag crank. I'm really taken by these. Cheap, pretty. Square taper and available in 48,33. What's not to like?

  • seems like a good choice! Good gear ratio and nice rings

  • Question is though, silver and silver or silver with black rings?
