  • Hopefully this is how my Pug should turn out. I've built it up, just needs the bullhorns and the powdercoat in peachy-orange.

Can't figure out how to add mudguards and a rack on BikeCAD though. Click the button and nothing happens

  • I hope the actual bike is not too big for you as the drawing suggests.

  • get a torro

nah, curvy seattube and massive fugly welds, never!

  • I hope the actual bike is not too big for you as the drawing suggests.

Haha yeah, I can't figure out how to move the seatpost up either.

EDIT - It's under 'saddle'. Also to get mudguards and a rack you've gotta start it up as 'commuter' rather than 'road'.

  • It's been a loooooong day

  • Haha yeah, I can't figure out how to move the seatpost up either.

there is a little bolt at the top of the frame.

  • Also, here's something I designed for Apollo, can you guess what it is?

Apollo's mo'-pro by 40 skid patches, on Flickr

  • Hmmm ... is it Apollo's mo'-pro by any chance?

  • do want.

  • I made this when people were bike cading in hhsb thread ages ago

  • repped

  • I don't have a single browser that now allows the BikeCAD website to work.

I guess Pro would work, but that's a damn pricey bit of software for a once every few years tinkering.

  • Yeah, same here - it was always flakey but now just doesn't work - and most browsers won't even download the suggested java update.

Guess I'll have to stump up, since I want to start doing more than just tinkering every so often.

Perhaps we could set up a bike-oriented hackerspace in order to pool resources around frame design and building, and share knowledge?

  • RattleCAD is a free download - not as detailed as BikeCAD Pro but could be useful for visualisations. You may have to download a couple of other apps to get it to work.

  • bikecad is working again! (at least on my computer...)

  • you need to add bikeCAD to your exceptions list from your Java settings. It uses an old version of java that java no longer deems safe so it blocks it from running.

  • bikeCAD is very pricey for messing around with, but it is what a large majority of frame builders use, and when you compare it to the mind boggling cost of some autodesk programmes, I think it offers great value for money for 'professionals' like me. My point is, The free offering was a cool little thing, but don't be too pissed off, as they offer an awesome programme, which makes a lot of peoples lives so much easier, for a lot less than they could charge.

So my actual point is don't be pissed off that you have lost something you enjoyed using, because I still get it at a discounted rate, and I don't want that to change. As you were. No moaning though.

  • Thanks to my favourite computer wizard, I can still get the free version to work, via a combination of IE8 and an older version of Java.

The only downside to this ( for me ), is that I've now designed enough new bikes to potentially see your children through college.

  • Maybe I'll let you use my pro version Pete ;)

  • Anyone still using the free version of bike cad? It loads very slow on both my mac and laptop and when I do get it loaded I don't get much done before its freezes.

Just want to mock up a little design to decide colour and layout before spraying my bike.
